what do the Lincoln-Douglass debates tell us about nullification?

The word nullification does come up in the text of the debates but the issue about nullification wasn't whether a state could nullify federal laws but was more about the law that was being nullified itself that law was the fugitive slave act. This was where the contaversy existed not whether or not a state could nullify a federal law. This may indicate that the practice of nullification was generally accepted by the public since there was virtually no contreversy over its use by many states.
