Bzzt --- nope, sorry. Let's show our studio audience and all the folks at home the correct answer:

It smells like Totalitarianism. It smells like Fascism. It smells like the Narcissistic Personality Disorder of a megalomaniac who's been handed everything for free so long he's never developed a skin and continually melts down like a whiny little bitch, and now wants to contrive legislation to help him do that. None of which has squat to do with "socialism" or any other economic structure. Controlling discourse has zero to do with how the economy works. It has to do with the concept of Freedom of Speech -- which as the name implies is free.

Thanks for playing, and be sure to play the "Guess the Poison" board game at home.

Lack of freedom comes with Socialism, really, since everyone becomes government property. Both Russia and Germany were/are Socialist. You keep people from talking badly about Socialism because nobody wants it. You keep people from leaving because nobody wants it.

I don't see a cause-and-effect there. Take Sweden, Denmark for instance -- socialism without this lack of freedom, if anything more freedom. The nature of a Totalitarian government is that it's going to control everything, from speech to the economy to religion to literally everything That ain't what "socialism" means. So what you have there is a simple Association Fallacy --- correlation extrapolated to false causation.

But certainly lack of freedom comes with Rumpism. That's exactly why I posted the video. His own words. And there we can ALL see a causal relationship.

In Rump's case it's a bit different. He's not necessarily out to control discourse simply out of being a control freak. Mainly he's out to control criticism because he's a fragile-ego thin-skinned fatally-entitled whiny little bitch who wants to get into the kitchen and then complains about the heat.

I fond your video choice interesting. There are a ton of examples of Trump willingly violating and/or disregarding rights in general. Expanding libel laws is not one of them (though I strongly disagree with his statements but I do not do so as an issue of rights)

Maybe Trump supporters want to be controlled. Perhaps they want a fascist in the WH? Maybe they want their civil liberties taken? I don't know?

He will be more than happy to oblige them.

I've posted that same video over and over because it boggles my mind that it doesn't get the news window that far less implicative blatherations have. We make icons out of "the judge is Mexican" and contortions mocking a muscular condition and "blood coming out of here wherever" and "rapists" but this is much more the elephant in the room.

The "libel" angle in my read is insignificant. That's just Rump citing his favorite bully tactic -- the lawsuit. It's the end game that concerns me.

And it's actually not Donald Rump himself that concerns me, since he really can't effect such "opening up" anyway --- it's the fact that when he says that he gets approval from the sitting sycophants cheering against their own self-interest. I know it's Texas, but even so. :scared1:

That's the real danger -- the demonstration of what mob mentality can be so easily baited into without a second thought, even when it cuts their own collective throat. As in the case of rally violence --- Rump never personally took a swing at anyone, but his willing minions take the hint and do it on his behalf. THAT is the scary part --- the obliviousness to the fact that the man behind the curtain IS the man behind the curtain. And when we point out the puppet strings over their heads they just go "la la la" and drone on with the Mantra of the Day.

(Usually at this point, I notice they change the subject to "Obama"... "Hillary Clinton"... "Bill Clinton"... "Bill Cosby"... anything they can think of to get out of the Discomfort Zone so it doesn't have to be faced.)
