An 11-year-old changed election results on a replica Florida state website in under 10 minutes

Does anyone think there isn't a shitload of zealots out there who will be trying?

Paper ballots, please.

An 11-year-old boy on Friday was able to hack into a replica of the Florida state election website and change voting results found there in under 10 minutes during the world’s largest yearly hacking convention, DEFCON 26, organizers of the event said.

Thousands of adult hackers attend the convention annually, while this year a group of children attempted to hack 13 imitation websites linked to voting in presidential battleground states.

The boy, who was identified by DEFCON officials as Emmett Brewer, accessed a replica of the Florida secretary of state’s website. He was one of about 50 children between the ages of 8 and 16 who were taking part in the so-called “DEFCON Voting Machine Hacking Village,” a portion of which allowed kids the chance to manipulate party names, candidate names and vote count totals.

And ink that thumb print in red or blue, and then press it down on that ballot.

Which precincts have their voting machines online to present a hacking target?

It's not about the machines, it's about how the votes are tabulated and kept.

Well, then none of that information should be transmitted via the internet...Problem solved.

The tabulation file is an easy manipulation if you get into it. simple DB2 platform in most cases or similar. A simple write over script and whala..

I've never trusted this system, not with all the tech nuts running around.

Newer systems are line by line encryption and the tally is performed on a different computer. If you don't know the voter ID number you can not change or read the voter information. Its become very sophisticated of late..

I fully endorse them.

So you want to be a hacker? Advice from the kids of DEF CON

Just think, if these kids had been doing their job at the last election, they could have hacked it to show how Americans REALLY felt.

Hillary Clinton -------------> 0 VOTES

I predict this will be the Democrat's new angle when they lose again in 2020. There can NEVER be a legitimate Republican president.
