We use to teach our children

too

obvious semi-literate is obvious

irony abounds

Just wait till you get older and have some arthritis in your fingers. :D
Some day's it's OK, some days it's not.
Today, is one that it is not.

the plural of "day" is "days"

Very Good !
How about getting back to the subject of losing our freedom, because of ism.
None of the Democrats seem to take this subject very seriously.

Based on writings on site, I cannot help but think that sometime after I graduated we started teaching some previously unknown virtues of socialism and the elimination of personal freedoms.

I had no idea that so many Americans hated the freedoms we once were so proud of before Obama became President.

Immie

It has become more prominent since President Obama was elected Immie.
It has been taught for a very long time and many don't even recognize for what it really is any more.

you posted a cartoon. how serious do you want to be taken?

In 1964, I graduated from Hight School in Levittown, NY. It was a good education that prepared me for college.
However, my lack of maturity caused me to drop out.

It appears from their posts that members of Generation Y are not getting a good education. Those who served in the Armed Forces got an education that those who did not serve will never understand. It gave me greater maturity than my peers who did not serve in Vietnam ( 1st Bn 4th Marines 67-68. ) I found college to be much easier than before I served in the USMC. I have no doubt that this generation of Veterans will do well.

Ben Franklin took political cartoons seriously. But I'm sure you know better...:doubt:

The First Political Cartoons in America | Archiving Early America

and what's your point? political cartoons are one thing, political propaganda is another.

why should this cartoon be taken seriously? because it's old? because xenophobes agree with it? what is it that makes this cartoon a respectable source?

It was a cartoon that came on on Sat. mornings, that taught our children about freedom.
That was the point. We used to teach our children.
Today, none are being taught the Constitution or about freedom. Very little of our history is taught.

Xenophobes? Really?

And what part of it is 'propaganda'? Be specific, please...

Bullshit.

Any of my kids would run circles around you in a discussion about freedom and our Constitution. And two of them are not that into Social Science as subject matter. They have all been educated in Florida public schools.

And.....the idea that public school curricula have been altered since president Obama took office is ridiculous.

the part from 0:00 - pretty much the end. that's the propaganda part.

as for the xenophobes, yes, believing that everyone should drop their ethnic identity an conform to an idea of what is and is not 'american' is xenophobic.

That's not true. American History is taught in the elementary school. World History and American Government are required in High School

The difference is that it is not indoctrination. High Schoolers must do independent research and back it up with reputable sources. They are no longer taught what to think. You can't just have parroting : US good, USSR bad any more since it does not apply.

Oh...and those of us severely afflicted never touch the keyboard. Get a new pencil and only use it for typing. In fact, leave it unsharpened. Use the eraser to tap out the words.
It's the modern way.....modern ways are often better: in both teaching and typing.

Hey, it was you that suggested no cartoon can be taken seriously. I proved you wrong. Deal with it.

As to why this cartoon should be taken seriously, I suggest it should because it rings true. Unless of course you have a better suggestion than freedom?

yes. you agree with the propaganda - but that's all that it is. so what salient point do you think it makes?

and let's try not to be generic with "freedom" shall we?

Thank goodness we have the likes of howard zinn, noam chomsky, and oliver stone to set the record straight........................lol

Freedom from indoctrination? No.....I can't improve upon that.
