This isn't far from where I live. Been to this Walmart many times. Hired in 1975 at age 23, she became Walmart's first female manager in 1979. She is now retiring at 71.

From the article...

[Jane] Marshall said she's humbled, not proud, to have been able to work this long.

"Is it an easy job? Imma tell you no, no," she said. "But I will also tell you that I thoroughly believe that anything that is worthwhile in your life doesn’t come easy."

That is a long time to work for WalMart, they are not gentle on their manager

So?

We going to praise every woman that's ever been the first do anything ever? What about the first McDonald's manager, gas station manager, first Popeyes manager, first woman to ever be an electrician, or first one to be a highschool driving instructor?

We only seem to saddle women and blacks with praise for doing some task. Where's the applause for the first Asian Walmart manager or the first Indian subway sandwiches owner?

If it bothers you so much , sort it out . Most of you guys owe us for a few thousand years of selfish and ungrateful behaviour .

If she can make it through that she can make it through anything.

What about the first Peruvian female epileptic dwarf manager? It's a travesty they have been left behind.

Supposedly women, gays, trans, etc are all equal ... yet .. why is it a big deal when an individual who isn't a white male does something for the first time? Participation Awards?

In 1979...things were a lot different than they are today.

Well, for 2 reasons really.

It highlights a barrier being breached; something that shouldn't have taken generations to happen.

The second reason is that some see it as "they're coming for me now that this has happened" and that makes others very, very happy to see the consternation.
