this is typical political gamesmanship. its been happening for years on both side, and whether youre a dem or repub and think we are all tired of it.

as the rules read, the speaker must acknowledge the person wishing to address to house. but like she said its at her discretion. this is where partisan politics comes into play. had she acknowledged the person wishing to speak and he invokes a filibuster, then we get gridlock again.

these were the rules as written by our founding fathers, and they will never change. you may not like them in this exact situation, but they do work both ways. this is also why the party in charge has so much power. Boehner, who is expected to be the next speaker will have the authority to so that same thing if he wishes. this is also to have some semblance of order amongst our government.
