Venezula's socialist experiment failed because their 1% ran it for themselves. It was more plutocracy than socialism. Their ruling class never really changed from the days when big oil was bribing them to steal resources. This is not so much a defense of socialism as it is condemnation of how things are run in every poor country where aristocracy is a real thing we in America fail to consider.
