The US Government intends to undertake an effective and constructive role toward development in Sudan in general and in Eastern Sudan in particular, US Charge d' Affaires Joseph Stafford has said.
The US Government has no intention to inappropriately intervene in Sudan's domestic affairs, Mr. Stafford told SUNA after a meeting with Presidential Aide Musa Mohamed Ahmed.
My first visit to Port Sudan was fruitful and I would like to seize this opportunity to confirm to the Sudanese Government and people that the US has no intention to intervene in Eastern Sudan, citing media reports of secret American meetings in Eastern Sudan.
The Charge d' Affaires added that the US is interested to cooperate through dialogue and consultation with the Sudanese Government, Red Sea and other States to combat poverty, implement development and meet the aspirations of the people of Eastern Sudan.
