Update: Asking for a raise

Update: The below letter was mailed to my boss's house last May. The final outcome was that my pay was increased from $8.25 per hour to $9.00 per hour.

Was that a failure or a success?

Just let me know. vasuderatorrent

Dear Sir,

•I am in a strong financial position. I currently have a lucrative part time job. My wife has a strong income as well. There are options available to me that were not present when I requested a pay increase back in December 2013.

Re: Request for Pay Raise

* Your financial position is of no concern to me. If I interpret what you say as a veiled threat, I would remind you that the current unemployment conditions indicate that about 6% of the population would be glad to have your position - even at its current pay scale.
THIS.

You don't know me and you don't know how to write thought provoking posts. Please go away you thoughtless bum.

Given what you've stated about your education and experience, you could be making double your current pay.
1. If the "culture" of this company is not to give pay raises at all upon request,
then you did VERY well to receive a .75 pay raise.
If you're smart enough to write this letter, and have an AA in accounting, you should find another job paying a lot more than $9.00 per hour.
Dear kwc57, emilynghiem and blackrook,

I took your advice and quit my job. It's pretty cool hanging around and doing nothing all the time. I like it.

thanks,

vasuderatorrent

The very fact that you've been in the job market for 12 years and you've topped out at 22 grand tells me something about you just aint right. I dont have a college education and I was making twice that in twelve years.

Dear HereWeGoAgain,

I took your advice and quit my job. It is pretty nice just sitting around the house and doing nothing all the time. I love it.

thanks,

Wow. With your attitude, I can see why you didn't get the raise you asked for.

Dear Gracie,

Thanks for your advice. I did quit my job. It is pretty cool just laying around the house and doing nothing all the time. I love it.

LOL - I didn't tell you to quit your job. But, if you're looking for somebody to blame, I'm as good as anybody (a lot better than Howdy Doody, I guess).

Where in the U.S. that you are making $10 per hour with AA degree in accounting? Some people I know that own McDonald's pay some of their employees $10. Waiters most are paid $8. except tips. Card dealers at Indian casino got paid less than minimum wages except tips. Shouldn't you look for another career?

I guess I misunderstood you. I thought you were saying that nobody gives a crap whether I work for them or not.

I thought I was doing my boss a favor. I wasn't blaming you. I was thinking you. It's awesome chilling out and doing nothing.

More and more seem to agree ... it's much easier drawing a government subsistence than having to work for it. You have to admit, though, that your future probabilities look kinda dim.

Somebody has to be unemployed. Isn't it better for me to be unemployed by choice than for someone to be unemployed against their will? People who get fired sometimes shoot people. There is one less opportunity for that happening. I just might have saved someone's life.

FYI: Persons who have quit a job in the last 90 days aren't eligible for any government subsidies in the State of North Carolina.

I make $0 per hour. I am not interested in working any more. Besides nobody real needs my help. There are plenty of other people willing to take the jobs. That way I don't have to take a job. It's a win for everybody.

The other applicants have one less competitor keeping them out of work. The employers have one less applicant to deny. I don't have to be treated like insignificant pond scum any more. Trust me it is better for everybody this way.

I'll throw my resume around a few times, I'll fill out an application on occasion but I just can't work for squat any more. If they offer me squat then that means they have plenty of other applicants. If they offer me more then they might seriously need my help. I'm not getting in anybody's way any more. If paying me is an annoyance to my boss then why would I stay and torture him? That's just cruel. I show up to work in order to get things done and make my boss rich. I don't go to work to annoy my boss.

By the way: I made more money before I got my degree. lol

Save the cost of a stamp ... don't send your resume to me. You have done nothing on this thread to even remotely indicate that I would be interested in hiring you. In fact, you have set off so many alarms, I think I can hear the fire engine now.

I am not working. I quit. Did you forget?

I also said I wouldn't work for squat any more.Did you forget that too?

I also am not interested in being treated like insignificant pond scum. Hire the other guy. I think he is interested. I'm not.

I am sitting on my ass and doing nothing. This is my retirement. I earned it. I'll continue breathing air, eating food and drinking water. You have plenty of applicants, Why were you interested in me anyways? Did it ever cross your mind that you have nothing to offer me either? (probably not. I guess everybody is begging to work for you because of your awesomeness and everything)

I have nothing to offer you. You made that abundantly clear and I appreciate your honesty. You have me the inspiration to take a long needed vacation. It has been great so far. If you would have lied to me then I wouldn't have been willing to do it. Thanks for reminding me how worthless I am to you. In the age of information this is the most valuable piece of information yet.

Shut down your business and join me. It is great.

Do you have a love/hate relationship with this job?

I asked for a raise and got rebuffed. It sucked. On top of that, they changed my responsibilities to ones I don't enjoy and don't really compliment my strengths.

Employers want too often, to "force" you into their system, instead of having you do what you love and excel at, and this causes decreased motivation, thus, decreased quality of work and productivity.

They would be better of letting you go and looking for a better fit.
