It was Zelensky himself who refused to leave Kiev and rallied the resistance. It took the courage and elan of the Ukrainian army and Ukrainian territorial troops — with much civilian help — to prove decisively that a “Greater Russia” encompassing Ukraine had already become a ridiculous delusion of fascist monarchists like Dugan.

The Russians could never even take predominantly Russian-speaking Kharkiv, the second largest city in the country … and near Ukraine’s Eastern border with Russia.

Subsequently forced out of Kherson in the South, the Russian occupation army is now hiding in their bunkers, a demoralized invasion force facing a smaller, but soon equally well-armed conventional fighting force. The Russian troops are now suffering for the first time bombardments of equally heavy artillery, as Russia and Putin himself faces further dangers and threats everywhere.

Nobody knows how this war will end, or when. It may go on for another year or more. It may still end with a rout of Russian occupation troops and Putin’s removal in a palace coup. A “cold peace” is possible — but unlikely — anytime before Jan. 2025.
