Unfit to lead

America will survive....I mean...we survived a civil war, a depression, two world wars....and in 250 years we are still the greatest most prosperous, generous country in the world....

Other countries have been around for hundreds if not thousands of years longer than us and they ALL still turn to us when the going gets tough.

BUT....healthcare is a biggie. Once we are in its grasp, it will be tough to let go.

I agree with you one hundred percent.

Thats why I laughed when people voted for "change".....

Can anyone tell me that some other country did it better?

Why? Becuase we had a little bump in the road and we suffered a itty bitty boo boo....so now we need to CHNAGE everything?

And people actually voted for it.

I just dont get it.
People voted for a whole lot more change than just healthcare.

Bush & Co. made this country ache to see the opposite of what he was...and we are getting it, for good and for bad.

What we needed to change was our relationship with our allies and countries around the world. Like it or not, the last administration bit the big one on that count. Like it or not, Obama is loved round the world, and America's standing/reputation in the world has risen once again thanks to his election and the way he has conducted foreign relations. That increases our ability to function effectively on a global scale. That's half of the change I personally voted for.

The other half of specifically "change" I voted for hasn't happened yet - certain programs and tools to increase transparency in government. I figure he's got a few years on that one. But I suspect it's not going to happen, which would piss me off but be predictable.

It does not take a great man to go around the world and say what they want to hear to get them to like you.

It takes a naive man to do it and THEN wait and see what the negative ramifications may be.

THAT may be the change you voted for and I respct that....but I suspect you would have preferred he do it in a way where our credibility was not compromised. For example....he made it quite clear to the world that we should not have "invaded" Iraq.....so now it is just a matter of time before the law suits for "wrongful death" of Iraqis start to come in. Furthermore.....sure, for great world PR he promised to close GITMO without a plan. So far, it has cost us 250 million to get rid of four of them....and plenty more to go.

Obama did it the easy way.....anyone could have done that.

Just like...as I like to say......It does not take a great man to borrow a trillion dollars to stimulate an economy. Anyone can do that. It takes a great man to stimulate an economy WITHOUT creating another problem...such as an increase in debt.

Exactly what is he doing differently than Bush....other than slandering Americans for exercising their right to free speech...something Bush would NEVER do.....

Free Speech Zones were a product of the Bush administration.

Free speech zones did not intimidate people not to speak out. They simply allowed a motorcade to pass without a public disturbance.

He actually complimented Sheehan.

He complimented the shoe tosser.

Poor choice to compare Obama saying "waving their tea bags" to "free speech zones"

Personally I could care less what other countries think about us. The fact is we (Americans) have done more for other countries than anyone else. To quote Gordon Sinclair: Germany, Japan and, to a lesser extent, Britain and Italy, were lifted out of the debris of war by the Americans who poured in billions of dollars and forgave other billions in debts The Marshall Plan and the Truman Policy pumped billions upon billions of dollars into discouraged countries. When the franc was in danger of collapsing in 1956, it was the Americans who propped it up and their reward was to be insulted and swindled on the streets of Paris. When distant cities are hit by earthquakes and typhoons it is the United States that hurries into help. We have helped control floods on the Nile, the Amazon, the Ganges and the Niger. When the railways of France, Germany and India were breaking down through age, it was the Americans who rebuilt them. I can name to you 5,000 times when the Americans raced to the help of other people in trouble. Can you name me even one time when someone else raced to the Americans in trouble?

He's not Bush for one. Like I said for better or worse, it IS change, and this country was hungry for it. You don't like it. Some of us are working with it and seeing how it pans out; He's disappointed me in some areas, but I never expected to be happy - with ANY president, Never have. But I do think he is doing the best he can and has our best interest at heart...
and you really are mischaracterizing his 'doctors chops off the feet for profit' statement.

Also, I seem to recall an episode where Bill Maher made a comment, and the White House told people they (paraphrased) "better watch what they say" - other forms of that commentary eeked out of the Bush White House as well, along with a pernicious fear we were being wiretapped filling the "watch what you say" warning to a much more private and psychological level,
there were Free Speech zones, there was a pervasive sense from the right wing we would be Traitors and were slammed as not patriotic if we dared disagree with his policy and administration
...so don't tell me that side did not do it, they did. You were just not on the receiving end of that intimidation.
It was there, and it was real.

For the record...

Pediatricians do not take out tonsils....ENT docs do.

Pediatricians must refer children to ENT specialists when they suspect tonsils should be extracted.....

Pediatricians LOSE money if they refer a child to ENT specialists.

If the pediatrician simply said " it is a sore throat, nothing more"...the kid would return every 3 months with a sore throat...MORE revenue for the pediatrician.

It was a moronic statement by a freshman politician...and was said to create outrage that should not be there.

As for the "unecessarly amputate a foot" statement....not sure how else it can be taken as "unecessay amputation" of a foot.

We have a waiting week in Oregon, too.

That's the way it works. Wait until you apply for a cash grant from the state. You get to play some REAL games then.

thanks!

New York is no different.

Dealing with unemplyment is a job in itself.

No different than the DMV....Post office......

Yup....lets give them healthcare. There's a great idea.

The pediatreician thing was said in the evening healthcare presser...and I know you saw it.....so why are you putting me in a position to offer proof?

He specifically said...paraphrased..."the doctor may lok at the list and see there is a better poayoff if he took the tonisls out"....what does that imply to you?

That is not your style paperview.

Yes, we are still very close to the situation of 1929.

Another legacy of President George W. Bush: massive income inequality

George W. Bush left so many memorable things in his wake. Sure, there were those two wars. And then there's that legacy of white-hot hate wielded by wacky multimillionaire talking heads. However, for a legacy that keeps on giving, W's greatest leave-behind is a level of income inequality that outpaces even that of the Roaring '20s that led to the Great Depression.

In 2007, the top .001 percent of American earners took home 6 percent of total U.S. wages -- about twice the figure for 2000, notes Emmanuel Saez, an economics professor at University of California–Berkeley. Saez also found that the top 10 percent of American earners pulled in 49.7 percent of total wages: a level "higher than any other year since 1917 and even surpasses 1928."

It's that kind of inequality that led to the depression. When people have no disposible income, or any income, because it's tied up in the top 6%, the economy suffers because no money is moving. Money has to be freed up for the economy to grow.

Too many Republicans fail to see that. They just want Obama to fail and will sacrifice their own families to make it happen.

No I didn't see it oldandtired. I've been quite busy these days. I've heard people talking about it, but never heard the section you are referring to, from him, in context.

I really would like to read the words from that speech. I'm sincere.

Here you go....enjoy...

It was a true slap in the face of the medical community.

OK, I heard.

"Right now, doctors a lot of times are forced to make decisions based on the fee payment schedule that's out there. ... The doctor may look at the reimbursement system and say to himself, 'You know what? I make a lot more money if I take this kid's tonsils out,'" Obama told a prime-time news conference. The president added: "Now, that may be the right thing to do, but I'd rather have that doctor making those decisions just based on whether you really need your kid's tonsils out or whether it might make more sense just to change; maybe they have allergies. Maybe they have something else that would make a difference."

There's not a thing there I disagree with. It's true.

Sorry.
