On Monday, the UN’s Human Rights Council issued a lengthy report on last summer’s war in Gaza. Written by a team led by retired New York Supreme Court judge Mary McGowan Davis, it’s bedtime reading in the Hague, the seat of the International Criminal Court.

Hamas is euphemized as “armed Palestinian groups.” But the report’s authors specifically accuse “decision-makers at the highest levels of the Government of Israel” of possible responsibility for war crimes. What the UN can do, if anyone is found guilty by the ICC, is issue international warrants for those found guilty which would be honored by nearly every nation except the U.S. and Israel. If, found guilty, it would make life difficult for Israeli leaders implicated, given that most of Israel's trade is with Europe and Israel is a member of many European organizations.

What the UN can do, if anyone is found guilty by the ICC, is issue international warrants for those found guilty which would be honored by nearly every nation except the U.S. and Israel. If, found guilty, it would make life difficult for Israeli leaders implicated, given that most of Israel's trade is with Europe and Israel is a member of many European organizations.

And the ICC/ICJ have already stated that they cant do that in the case of Israel as they are not signatories to it. In the case of the UK anyway they have already closed that loophole so it wont happen here. I doubt it will happen in the US either so it is a moot point.
