Ummm ... Negotiating With Terrorists? $400 Million to Iran

Of course Obama lied; he made a statement = he lied

The old-fashioned name for this error is post hoc sed non propter hoc (after this but not because of this) Your average Trumpet is far too dumb and disinterested to grasp the significance of the following facts, all of which have been public knowledge for months:

The funds frozen by the US in an arms deal that goes back to the days of the Shah are required to be released under the terms of the nuclear disarmament treaty with Iran

Iran threatened to take the issue to the World Court of Justice where, given the ruling would almost certainly be in their favor and would require repayment of the frozen funds plus over 40 years of accumulated interest made releasing the funds the best option. The amount required after losing the case in the WCJ would be in the billions of dollars.

The USA still has no bank relations with Iran, making payment by check or wire transfer impossible. Hence the payment in currency.

The negotiation over the release of the Americans imprisoned in Iran (they were not hostages but convicted criminals, from Iran's point of view) was conducted entirely independently of the negotiation over frozen funds by completely different teams of negotiators and neither side linked the two issues as the written record and the testimony of the US negotiators confirm.

Hillary Clinton has been out of office since these negotiations were begun and has had nothing to do with them.

What we have here is a conspiracy theory born of paranoia and a desperate need to find some mud to fling at the Democrats, i.e. the conservative Republican folie du jour.

The money rightfully belongs to the Iran government of 1977, dufus.

Um...no, sorry, you clearly don't understand international trade law. All debts and obligations incurred by the Shah's government transferred to the Islamic Republic. Just like they have to honor any treaties the Shah signed...
Invading an embassy is an act of war, dufus.

The left defend terrorism at every opportunity. They are beyond evil.

Not to sling mud... but!

Having no bank relations with Iran and just loading a plane with skidloads of cash would seem to be in violation of our banking laws.

At this point it really doesn't matter.

I would think that if I were to load a plane with money and took it to a Iran I'd be looking at a long prison sentence.

Just asking.

funny how Democrats still think the Iran deal
is good

I think that if you look at the facts, it's the best deal we can get.

1) That 400 Million rightfully belongs to Iran. it was part of 1.7 BILLION the Iranian Government paid to the US for weapons in 1979 that were never delivered. simple thing. You either provide services and goods paid for or you return the money. It shouldn't have taken 40 years to work this out.

2) Five other countries were involved in that Iran deal. Five countries that want to do business in Iran and frankly think our sanctions are stupid. So if our options were the sanctions falling apart or rolling back the sanctions in exchange for some concessions from the Iranians, it is actually a good deal.

But since the Israelis control our politics, you'll tell yourself this is a bad deal because news organizations with a lot of people named "-Stein" and "-Berg" tell you it is.
Joe. You would take any deal with a terrorist nation.

You would also disarm citizens of this country.

Yeah, that the hostages were released at the exact same time that the money arrived is just coincidence.

Why are Democrats so fucking retarded to believe that stupid shit?

The fact that we have no banking relations with Iran doesn't make it illegal for the president to send them cash. When you grow up to be president you can do it too.
