So how bad do you want & need that oil America? Are you willing to go to War with Iran and die for it?

Iran warns of closing strategic Hormuz oil route.

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — Iran's navy chief warned Wednesday that his country can easily close the strategic Strait of Hormuz at the mouth of the Persian Gulf, the passageway through which a sixth of the world's oil flows.

It was the second such warning in two days. On Tuesday, Vice President Mohamed Reza Rahimi threatened to close the strait, cutting off oil exports, if the West imposes sanctions on Iran's oil shipments.

In response, the Bahrain-based U.S. 5th Fleet's spokeswoman warned that any disruption "will not be tolerated." The spokeswoman, Lt. Rebecca Rebarich, said the U.S. Navy is "always ready to counter malevolent actions to ensure freedom of navigation."

With concern growing over a possible drop-off in Iranian oil supplies, a senior Saudi oil official said Gulf Arab nations are ready to offset any loss of Iranian crude.

That reassurance led to a drop in world oil prices. In New York, benchmark crude fell 77 cents to $100.57 a barrel in morning trading. Brent crude fell 82 cents to $108.45 a barrel in London.

"Closing the Strait of Hormuz is very easy for Iranian naval forces," Adm. Habibollah Sayyari told state-run Press TV. "Iran has comprehensive control over the strategic waterway," the navy chief said.

The threats underline Iranian concern that the West is about to impose new sanctions that could target Tehran's vital oil industry and exports.

Again, WWRD?

What would your boy Ron do?

Until you answer that, shut up!

no. The straight doesnt belong to Iran

Does the Gulf of Mexico belong to us?

No. But a more analogous questions would be: Does the Berring Straight belong to us?

I'm sure Iran does own & control a portion of the Straight of Hormuz within a certain distance from their shore. The rest would be considered International Waters. So if they chose to shut down their controlled portion,it could be considered legal. Just like we could legally shut down a portion of the Gulf of Mexico if we chose to.

Another example of Ron Paul naivety

If the straight belonged to iran..i would say yes they have the right...and we are fucked

It is not their straight to close. Simple as that.

Krist! All we have to do is call up the 5th fleet of the United States Navy, case close. Remember the Navy has been modernizing during this Iraq nonsense, and itching to join the fight on a full scale front.

Keep in mind Iran has far more to lose that Iraq ever did.

I'm pretty sure a portion of it does. Just like we own & control a portion of the Gulf of Mexico. And if we put more sanctions on them, they may have to retaliate. I guess we'll have to wait and see though.

yes, exactly, wait and see if these Iran pukes want to try the 5th fleet.

If you read further into this mess, you will see there is a massive power struggle within Iran right now, thus the saber rattling. Iran is known for upping the BS during a time of uncertainty with in the large minority. However, we should have been waiting for this instead of invading Iraq.

This crap is going to blow over like the rest of the Iran war scares. Something new to needlessly fear will be along any time now.

It's easy to see how this threat by Iran has the potential to create a world wide crisis. I suspect the Obama Administration has looked at all options and communicated with both the Russians and Chinese as to possible scenarios.

Should Iran attempt to blockade the strait one could be sure any tanker attempting to leave will be escorted by a Man of War flying the flag of the US, Britain or France; Iranian forces attacking such a vessel would be committing an act of war.

I suspect the Obama Administration has back-channel contact with leaders of the Iranian Green Movement and if hostilites break out supplies & intel will be provided by us to the citizens of Iran, allowing them to battle the thugs who killed and injured many young people under orders of the theocratic leadership.
