U.S. Sends Osprey Aircraft, More Special Forces to Uganda to Hunt Warlord Joseph Kony

It has at least as much to do with America as Iraq did

Why, do we have a treaty with Uganda for mutual protection as we did with Kuwait?

We never had such a treaty prior to Iraq's invasion of Kuwait.

Quite the opposite. US Diplomat April Glaspie green lighted the invasion when asked by Saddam Hussein.

It only got dicey when they rolled the whole country and oil companies started complaining.

So Saddam asked to be invaded and Glaspie OK'd that????

From the Dept. of State website...

The United States established diplomatic relations with Kuwait in 1961 following its full independence from the United Kingdom. The United States shares a long history of friendship and cooperation with Kuwait, rooted in shared values, democratic traditions, and institutions. In 1990, Iraq invaded Kuwait. Military forces of the United States and a multinational coalition expelled Iraq in 1991. The United States supports Kuwait's sovereignty, security, and independence, as well as its multilateral diplomatic efforts to build greater cooperation among the Gulf Cooperation Council countries. From 2003, Kuwait provided the main platform for U.S. and coalition operations in Iraq. Kuwait played a key role in facilitating the withdrawal of U.S. combat troops and associated equipment from Iraq, which concluded in 2011. Kuwait is an important partner in U.S. counterterrorism efforts, providing assistance in the military, diplomatic, and intelligence arenas and also supporting efforts to block financing of terrorist groups.

Kuwait

I read the U.S. SUPPORTS SECURITY of Kuwait, as military aid....idiots might take that a different way!

Kony is a mass murderer who should face justice for crimes against humanity, like Saddam Hussein.
ICC - Uganda

He should have been taken out a long time ago, along with a whole bunch of others.

then let the UN send troops in....that should be their job....

And we are a big part of the UN.

This guy is a sicko. He's a blight. He needs to be stopped.

Ask Saudi Arabia to go after him, or perhaps China...Russia is busy bitch slapping the Manchurian muslim in Syria, which we also should not be involved in!

I agree, BUT NOT BY America...Let someone else carry the water for a change!
The right-wing didn't say that about Iraq.

Then why are you not bemoaning this instance like you do with Iraq?

Must an error continue to repeat itself forever? Perhaps it is just because the D is doing it this time.

Bring Kony to justice is work the effort alone. This will most likely turn our the same way as Iraq, China gets the spoils but it is not just a country involved but a continent. Right now China is building two, and possibly a third on the west side of Africa. The size of which is almost unfathomable, 32 berths wide and each one able to handle the largest ships afloat. The resources in Africa are worth tens, if not hundreds, of billions of dollars that will flow out for decades to come. China is financing railroads and roads into the continent from these ports. China also does not play the game as we do. We will go in, help out a lot, and then try to work out fair trade deals. China will go in, help out a little, and lock up deals which are most advantageous to them and locks everyone else out. Many parts of the region are very unstable which means deals with a ruling but weak government can be made at pennies on the dollar. We are not only the most powerful country in the world, we also use the most resources in the world. Sooner or later the resources in Africa will be bought by America. Resources which make computers and pharmaceuticals. Did you know that zinc is not only used in electronics but also in chemo-therapy drugs? Did you know that some of those drugs are in short supply because of the dual use? I bet you will never guess where massive quantities of the stuff happens to be sitting in the ground.

Probably due to the military over-reaction of the anti-Boko Haram in Nigeria...

U.S. Embassy in Uganda tells citizens to seek shelter amid anti-terror operation
14 Sept.`14 - The U.S. Embassy in Uganda told its citizens to seek safety on Saturday, warning that local authorities had uncovered a "terrorist cell" run by Somali militant group al Shabaab, which they believed was planning an imminent attack.
Ugandan police later said it had foiled an attack in central Kampala and was increasing security at hotels and other public places, but declined to say who was behind the attack. The Embassy, in a statement published on its website, said it was not aware of specific targets but said the authorities had increased security at key sites including Entebbe International Airport. "Today Ugandan authorities reported the discovery of an al-Shabaab terrorist cell in Kampala, Uganda," the Embassy said. "We remain in close contact with our Ugandan counterparts as investigations continue into what appears to have been planning for an imminent attack."

At a news conference later, Ugandan police said they had seized explosives and arrested an unspecified number of foreigners after foiling an attack. But Fred Enanga, a spokesman for Uganda Police, declined to say if he believed the cell was connected to Islamist militants al Shabaab or to name the nationalities of those detained. Uganda, as one of the countries that contribute forces to an African Union peacekeeping mission battling al Shabaab in Somalia, has suffered militant attacks in recent years, and al Shabaab has threatened more.

The U.S. Embassy, shortly before issuing its announcement, told its citizens, in a message posted on Twitter, to stay at home or proceed to a safe location while Ugandan authorities completed operations against a suspected cell in Kampala. The Embassy has said Uganda faces a "continued threat" and has issued other alerts during the year about possible attacks.

Al Shabaab, which is aligned with al Qaeda, claimed responsibility for the attack on the Westgate shopping mall in Nairobi in neighbouring Kenya a year ago, in which 67 people died. This month the group warned of revenge against its enemies after it said its leader Ahmed Godane had been killed in a U.S. air strike on his encampment in Somalia. In 2010, Al Shabaab bombed sports bars in Uganda where people were watching the soccer World Cup on television.
