U.N. approves Palestinian "observer state" bid - CNN.com York (CNN) -- The United Nations General Assembly on Thursday endorsed an upgraded U.N. status for the Palestinian Authority, despite intense opposition from the United States and Israel.

The resolution elevates their status from "non-member observer entity" to "non-member observer state," the same category as the Vatican, which Palestinians hope will provide new leverage in their dealings with Israel.

Its leaders had been working with dozens of supporting nations to develop a formal draft, enlisting the backing of European countries such as France and Spain.

138 delegates voted in favor of the measure, while nine voted against. There were 41 abstentions, including Germany.

After forty plus years it appears the US and Israel are revealing which side is truly seeking peace and which side prefers the profit$ of continued conflict.

"The basic principles have been accepted by virtually the entire world, including the Arab states (who go on to call for full normalization of relations), the Organization of Islamic States (including Iran), and relevant non-state actors (including Hamas).

"A settlement along these lines was first proposed at the U.N. Security Council in January 1976 by the major Arab states.

"Israel refused to attend the session.

"The U.S. vetoed the resolution, and did so again in 1980.

"The record at the General Assembly since is similar (until today!)."

This is the first step towards independence, although I see Israel using violence to shut this down.

I really don't see it going anywhere and I'm not in favor of it. You don't know what kind of plans there are. We don't know the secret politics. Whether this is a setup or not. I don't trust Abbas and never liked him.

My goal isn't for a little state without any right of return, end of settlements, or 67 borders. Israel won't accept that. Nothing will come out of it. I don't believe in limited.

Possibly by the annexation of Area C?

"Areas A and B are themselves divided among 227 separate areas (199 of which are smaller than 2 square kilometres (1 sq mi)) that are separated from one another by Israeli-controlled Area C. [38] Areas A, B, and C cross the 11 Governorates used as administrative divisions by the Palestinian National Authority, Israel, and the IDF and named after major cities.

"The mainly open areas of Area C were to be handed over to the Palestinians by 1999 under the Oslo Accords. This was never done."

Hopefully, but the government of Israel is even more Rightwing now. They not only won't annex Area C but they will also occupy more land, of course meaning more settlements construction in occupied territories, this is why they refuse to declare their borders.

:lmao:

What a joke. They are not a state... nor a country...and need to get the boot from the un.

And as a State the first time Hamas rains missiles, mortars and rockets on Israel they can declare war and occupy Palestine until such time4 as its government can assure them such attacks will stop.

They could declare war and occupy what they take and then annex it outright.

they have a better weapon than rockets now...they can hire a team of Jewish lawyers and take them to court...

And what is the relevant point of supporting an illegal non-representative unelected Abu Mazen junta? Opposing individuals welcome to cry me "international law" on that.

Israel just announced additional new settlement construction this morning. Apparently, Bibi didn't get a very big bounce in the polls from his recent assault on Gaza. Israel won't ever change its behavior until the US government stops supporting apartheid in the occupied territories.

What happens to the half-a-million Jews in the new state?

"The following demographic statistics are from the CIA World Factbook, unless otherwise indicated.
[edit]Population
2,568,555 including East Jerusalem [15] population in the West Bank, excluding Israeli settlers. [16]
3,092,555 including 524,000 Israeli settlers in the West Bank."

Got room for a few kosher squatters, drivel?

Shut what down?
What was last week will be next week. Nothing has been accomplished by this and there is nothing to shut down. The "Palestinians" must still negotiate a direct agreement with Israel and TinHorn says Abbas does not represent them. So who does? :D

We don't have time for non-sequitur drivel. The question, of course, remains, what is the relevant point of supporting an illegal non-representative unelected Abu Mazen junta?

Typically the board-chorus of myopic Jewish Nazis don't recognize the vast implications of 'statehood' recognition...put on your thinking -caps, and toss away your trusty HASBARA-manuals...the scam is up!!!!!:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D
And typical Skitzo, the little NeoNazi from Manhattan, has to come back with his putdown. What would he do if he couldn't do that? Good thing he isn't in Syria today where the Internet is down. He would be so traumatized if he couldn't post his usual putdowns that make his day and boost his low self esteem. By the way, ask your friend Tinnie who is going to lead this so-called new state -- Hamas or Fatah?
