TSA Scans

when was the last time you flew?

because i can assure you no one is grabbing your crotch, no matter how much some might want them to.

this is just nonsense.. fauxrage because a certain segment of the population wants them to engage in profiling.

if they were saying this was going to be done to just muslims, the rightwingnut freaks (not saying you, btw... but you see the nutters on this thread) would be all happy.

I flew to Minnesota just a few weeks ago. I fly about a dozen or so times a year for work. The crotch grabbing is absolutely taking place. That was a policy recently implemented just within the last month. No, it doesn't happen to every person who walks through, but if you get randomly selected to be patted down it is happening now and if you refuse the naked body scanner, it is your alternative, or you get thrown out of the airport and threatened by the government.

I usually fly back to Boston every year on Christmas, but I haven't bought my ticket yet this year because I am seriously contemplating whether or not I am going to now with all of this new bullshit going on. Flying these days is inconvenient as it is with all the airport traffic, the past security measures (removing shoes, no bottled water, etc. even though I can tolerate that stuff) and being jammed into a seat with barely enough room. I'm not fat, but I'm not exactly a skinny guy either and I feel like a sardine every time I get on a plane. Unless I get one of those huge jets, which isn't typical unless I'm flying across country, the bathrooms are so damn small on the plane I can't even stand up to pee. We pay a lot of money to fly and we're treated like absolute shit by the airlines and now throw in these abusive searches of our person by the government. I've just had enough of it. Telling people "if you don't like it don't fly" is unreasonable. Some people don't have a choice and driving three days in a car to California usually isn't an optimal alternative.

Like I've pointed out in other threads, these tactics are not necessary to keep us safe. Other nations are doing a better job without doing any of this.

I agree. I fly alot for work and wasn't even aware of this new bullshit until this week since I used the brand new terminal at the San Antonio Airport. Unfortunately I already bought plane tickets to fly home for Thanksgiving, if I knew about this shit I would of chose to drive it.

Leftist statist kooks like jillian cannot be reasoned with on these matters. She's an Obam-bot so whatever the administration does is the word of god as far as she is concerned.

I think the next time I fly anywhere, I am going deny the scanner. When they go to pat me down, I will inform whoever is selected to do the patting that my penis is erect and I am feeling horny.

LOL, wow what arrogance. You can "assure" us? Have you flown in the last week since they implemented the new "techniques"?

I HAVE, and as I said before, its is not a simple "pat down". It IS groping, and NO you DONT always get a choice.

'grabbing your crotch' implies a sexuality.

and i don't believe you.

and you absolutely have a choice about being touched... walk through the scanner.

or are you whining on principle?

LOL. thats your arguement now? You don't believe me? Next time you fly, OPT for the grope down, then come back here and defend it.

As I stated before, when I fly this last monday I had no choice. I went through the x-ray machine, and then was told to stand on the pat down mat and was patted down.

Since you seem to be a self appointed spokesperson for the TSA, please explain how that happened.

again, why would i opt out of the scanner? i think the scanner is a big nothing.

i'm not the spokesperson for the TSA... I just think the fauxrage is absurd.

if they patted you down AFTER going through the x-ray, then you alarmed the system or they saw something of concern.

if the protocol bothers you, come up with a better one that is equally effective and doesn't make you whine.

If it happens anywhere other than the airport (or the bedroom) it's a crime.

being patted down? really?

there are other instances where people get patted down. no?

It is not a "pat down" jillian. I've been patted down several times at places like bars/clubs, sporting events. This new shit they are doing isn't anything like that. As I said before, experience it for yourself before you come here and lecture us about it.

Having your crotch and boobs rubbed is not a pat down. Do you understand that this IS what they are doing? Why do you think all of this backlash has suddenly surfaced around the country in the past couple of weeks? These new "pat downs" just went into effect literally a few weeks ago. That's when the outcry began, starting with that pilot in Memphis.

I am saying OPT out of the scanner just you have the experience of the grope down. Otherwise you're just talking out of your ass.

If I did "alarm" the system, then why didnt they tell me what it was? Obviously it was a false alarm since nothing was on me.

Just to be clear, you're saying this image does not bother you? You can clearly see this man's naked body. Nothing is left to the imagination.

If you must opt out just to finally get some action that is so so sad. :(

I love it when the civil liberties brain trust tells us intercepting emails to or from terrorist countries is a gross compromise of privacy, but having government stick its hands down your pants is not.

I love when the other side says the exact opposite.

Why is it sad valerie? Not all of us can be as sexually appealing as you.

Some of us have to resort to free sexual massages courtesy of the US Govt.

Shit bitch, if you can stand on a welfare line for a few dollars, I can damn well get jerked off by a monkey in a blue uniform.

All of this nonesense is happening because of a foreigner with terrorist ties was given a visa by the Hillary Department and flew in from overseas.

Yet what is being done about our State Dept giving visas to these assholes? Nothing. They just use the incident to institute this police state shit leftist love so much.

Well we know that the TSA is saving at least some of these photos, which they said they wouldn't, so what do they get out of it?

Yea, I'm sure we can all trust the near minimum wage TSA employees to not do anything unethical or illegal.

From all the images I've seen, and that wasn't many, it doesn't appear that the scan is too invasive.

I looked in that TSA saved scans thread and the images weren't very descriptive.

But even if they are...who fucking cares if someone looks at your junk through an x-ray if it means you'll be flying safely? Shit I'll whip my shit out in front of the entire airport if need be. The TSA assholes can go jerk off over it in the back office, I don't care.

If it is harmful to your health, then that would be entirely different.

Radiation is always safe, except when it isn't.

When an X-ray Compton scatters, it doesn't shift an electron to a higher energy level; instead, it hits the electron hard enough to dislodge it from its atom. The authors note that this process is "likely breaking bonds," which could cause mutations in cells and raise the risk of cancer.
Because the X-rays only make it just under the skin's surface, the total volume of tissue responsible for absorbing the radiation is fairly small. The professors point out that many body parts that are particularly susceptible to cancer are just under the surface, such as breast tissue and testicles. They are also concerned with those over 65, as well as children, being exposed to the X-rays.
The professors pointed to a number of other issues, including the possibility that TSA agents may scan certain areas more slowly (for example, the groin, to prevent another "underwear bomber" incident like the one in December 2009), exposing that area to even more radiation. But the letter never explicitly accuses the machines of being dangerous; rather, the professors encourage Dr. Holdren to pursue testing to make sure that the casual use of these X-rays is safe.

FDA sidesteps safety concerns over TSA body scanners

Feel free to believe the FDA when they say it is safe, it isn't like they are ever wrong.

Well that's fine for you. The rest of us don't want to be porn stars and radiated.

you do understand that the images aren't anything like that.

and please don't speak for others....

*I* happen to agree with him, and disagree with you, and last I checked, I am most certainly part of "the rest of us".

if you object, feel free to allow them to pat you down... that is your right. otherwise, feel free to take the train.

Do you understand that the only reason they are not like that is because software was added to reduce the resolution? It isn't like software ever fails, or the government ever lies, so I should have nothing to worry about.

:cuckoo:

It's a figure of speech, take it easy.

It's my right not to be fondled or exposed by the federal government, which has no authority to do either.

no one is "fondling" you. "fondling" implies a sexual nature to the touching. someone of the same sex patting you down isn't 'fondling'.

no offense., but people really need to stop mischaracterizing this.

once again, feel free not to fly. that is absolutely your right.

i seriously couldn't care less that there's a cartoon-like distorted picture of my body on a screen... big deal.

Quite true.

In most jurisdictions it is actually assault. In fact, the incoming DA in San Mateo county is promising to prosecute any TSA agent who touches a passenger inappropriately. That guy in San Diego was perfectly within his rights to refuse to allow the TSA to touch his groin.
