Trump Signs Bill Freeing Coal Up

he needs to sign a bill banning the production of natural gas if he wants to create jobs in the coal industry .... until NG goes away coal production jobs will suck.

It's good to have options. I know liberals hate choice, but we Republicans think it's a good thing.

If left up to liberals, fracking would have been outlawed. The reason gas is cheaper than coal is because of fracking. It produces energy with less greenhouse gases. It reduces our cost from the gas station to our electricity provider.

Energy providers shift to whatever source is the cheapest to produce their product. If natural gas gets too expensive, they always have coal as a secondary option.

Trump signs bill undoing Obama coal mining rule

President Trump on Thursday signed legislation ending a key Obama administration coal mining rule.

The bill quashes the Office of Surface Mining's Stream Protection Rule, a regulation to protect waterways from coal mining waste that officials finalized in December.

The legislation is the second Trump has signed into law ending an Obama-era environmental regulation. On Tuesday, he signed a Congressional Review Act (CRA) resolution undoing a financial disclosure requirement for energy companies.

Both the mining and financial disclosure bills are the tip of a GOP push to undo a slate of regulations instituted in the closing days of the Obama administration. The House has passed several CRA resolutions, and the Senate has so far sent three of them to President Trump for his signature.

You know nothing about what these laws reverse.

But that doesn't stop you making wild assumptions though, does it?

Thanks for letting us know for sure.

Do you really think I'm stupid enough to give people like you personal information?
I've had conversations with you before. Yes, I think you are stupid. Dishonest too.

Coal is dead

Coal production in the United States is plummeting to levels not seen since a crippling coal strike 35 years ago, according to a report released by the Energy Department on Friday.

The coal industry in recent years has been plagued by bankruptcies as power utilities increasingly moved to replace coal with cheap natural gas and renewable sources, like solar and wind energy. Coal was once the dominant source of the nation’s electricity generation, but consumption of the fossil fuel has declined by nearly a third since its peak in 2007.

Once gradual, the decline in coal mining appears to be picking up momentum. Coal production in the United States of 173 million tons for January through March was the lowest in any quarter since 1981. The quarterly production total represented a 17 percent decline from the previous quarter, the steepest quarter-over-quarter drop in nearly 32 years.

World Energy Hits a Turning Point: Solar That's Cheaper Than Wind
Emerging markets are leapfrogging the developed world thanks to cheap panels.

A transformation is happening in global energy markets that’s worth noting as 2016 comes to an end: Solar power, for the first time, is becoming the cheapest form of new electricity.

This has happened in isolated projects in the past: an especially competitive auction in the Middle East, for example, resulting in record-cheap solar costs. But now unsubsidized solar is beginning to outcompete coal and natural gas on a larger scale, and notably, new solar projects in emerging markets are costing less to build than wind projects, according to fresh data from Bloomberg New Energy Finance.

The chart below shows the average cost of new wind and solar from 58 emerging-market economies, including China, India, and Brazil. While solar was bound to fall below wind eventually, given its steeper price declines, few predicted it would happen this soon.1

“Solar investment has gone from nothing—literally nothing—like five years ago to quite a lot,” said Ethan Zindler, head of U.S. policy analysis at BNEF. “A huge part of this story is China, which has been rapidly deploying solar” and helping other countries finance their own projects.

Half the Price of Coal
This year has seen a remarkable run for solar power. Auctions, where private companies compete for massive contracts to provide electricity, established record after record for cheap solar power. It started with a contract in January to produce electricity for $64 per megawatt-hour in India; then a deal in August pegging $29.10 per megawatt hour in Chile. That’s record-cheap electricity—roughly half the price of competing coal power.

“Renewables are robustly entering the era of undercutting” fossil fuel prices, BNEF chairman Michael Liebreich said in a note to clients this week.

You [FW] live in West Virginia ?
Sounds like you do. What do you think of your water being allowed to be polluted by private enterprise?

1. I don't.
2. Water is polluted by a great many things.
3. I suspect W.V. has an EPA that will respond the requests of it's mambers
4. Farming pollutes too....you want to stop growing food ?
5. What is pollution ?

You are a fucking idiot. And it was a Republican governor in Oregon that cleaned up our rivers. How far that party has fallen since then.

Coal mines coming to Somerset County

Somerset County, Pa. - Corsa Coal Corp. is opening the Acosta Deep underground mine in May. The opening of the new mine is expected to bring in 70 to 100 jobs.

Thursday, coal industry leaders met at the Somerset Country Club to talk about the industry and how President Trump's administration could bring more jobs back to the region.

The coal industry is looking to expand in Somerset County and new coal mine projects are underway, especially with the support expected to come from President Trump's administration.

Thursday, the White House is expected to ease current regulations on the coal industry.

"Had Trump not won the election, a lot of those people would have closed the door on investing in coal, which would be a tremendous pity not only for this region but for the country," said George Dethlefsen, CEO of Corsa Coal Corp.
The USA has more coal than any other nation and has 1/4th of all the reserves of coal on Earth.

For BHO to quash that industry was political suicide.
Silly ass, coal is not needed. It is uneconomical, and has all too many side effects that we the taxpayer pay for. Time to relegate it to the same status as the horse and buggy.

Funny. It didn't bother Obama enough to put the regulations in place until December. But we all know how bad that pollution was three months ago.

Oh, three months ago.... so you're complaining it took him three months to do something that Trump has just got rid of. But you don't complain about Trump. Right....

I'm not complaining all. And it didn't take Obama three months. It took him 8 years. He didn't feel these regulations were necessarily until literally a month before he left office. Eliminating these regs will not make the planet any more polluted than it was the entire Obama presidency.

It's a typical political tactic democrats use. As they are leaving office they pass a bunch of burdensome regulations they never cared about while in power, then when republicans repeal them to where they were the entire previous administration they jump up and down screaming, "see! See! They hate the environment. They want to poison your children." And yet absolutely nothing has actually changed.

It's bull crap. It's deception and it's about time they stop getting away with lying to people.

Maybe not the planet, but the area where the coal mines are.

But I'm not defending the Democrats. The point is that politicians in general seem to not give a damn much about the environment, though Obama was a lot better than Trump will be in these regards. He only cares about rich people, living far away, getting the benefits, while those who live close, ah... who cares about those living close?

here is Mountaintop Removal Happening?
Mountaintop removal takes place primarily in eastern Kentucky, southern West Virginia, southwestern Virginia, and eastern Tennessee.

Appalachian Voices commissioned a study in 2009 showing that nearly 1.2 million acres to date had been surface mined for coal, and more than 500 mountains destroyed by mountaintop removal coal mining. In some counties, such as Wise County, Va., surface mining has impacted nearly 40 percent of the land area.

Mountaintop removal mining impact study results by state:
Kentucky
574,000 acres 293 mountains
Tennessee 78,000 acres 6 mountains
Virginia 156,000 acres 67 mountains
West Virginia 352,000 acres 135 mountains
TOTAL 1,160,000 acres 501 mountains

Neither needed as solar and wind are cheaper than both coal and natural gas, far cheaper than nuclear. With the grid scale batteries, both will be 24/7. Natural gas will be around for at least another 20 years, coal will die before 2030, if the incoming admin and congress in 2020 do not outlaw it.

We only have one planet. But you turds can't respect it.
Trump is also gutting the endangered species act. Soon it will be legal to shoot a bald eagle... the symbol of this country.
If that doesn't wake you up to his toxic agenda... nothing will.

Is there some kind of basis for your rant.

Like you actually know what is going on in the world of environmental stupidity ?

Please find someone, borrow a quarter and call someone who wants to listen to you rants.
