Trump is far from a political genius. In fact, as a politician I'd give him an F. He has done little to show his political skills, he has trouble keeping staff, he has failed to negotiate with the Dems, the GOP pretty much ignored him and his campaign promises, he is a joke on the international stage, and unable to negotiate trade or treaty.
His genius is marketing. The most valuable product of the Trump business empire is the Trump name and the image it conjurers up. His marketing genius translates well into campaigns and he is at his best in front of supporters or the press and at his worst in the oval office. That is why he has been running for reelection since the inauguration.
