These indictments are making Trump more popular among Americans. Did the Democrats shoot themselves in the foot?

They went way past anything reasonable or sensible.

We are living in a mad world but covid made the distrust of power around the world much worse. The censoring of him on twitter helped him ultimately also.

The Democrats want to bring down Trump because they stole the election and they want to hide their misdeed and they take the Americans (Republicans) for idiots because we have all seen that this election was rigged.

Is it making him more popular in the republican party? Or with independents and/or democrats? You know, the ones that actually matter.

Any trial should be delayed until after the election.
The problem is…..he’d still be allocating time in advance of the trial. This is major election interference and something one could expect in from a corrupt government or a Communist country.

It’s also not allowing the people to vote for whom they want. Talk about voter suppression!

Why do Democrats matter more than Republicans? They’re never going to vote for Trump anyway.

As far as how independents view this, it may backfire big league. Most people don’t like the current president using the DOJ to take down his most likely challenger via a prison sentence on bogus charges.

Because we know trump is going to win the republican vote.
Is that enough to actually win the elction?

He was always the defacto Republican nominee. Indictments or not. He is popular with Republicans. And should crush the rest of the field in the primaries.
He is NOT popular with the remaining voters who will vote en masse in the general election.

He will lose. Soundly. :)

No. These indictments are making him more popular with the hard-right base of the party whose nomination he is seeking. That same party base will vote for him regardless of what he does. There's a big difference.

but when they vote twice as hard for him, then those votes should count double. everything else would be another stealing of a sacred landslide victory.

Anybody now after the fact, knowing that Trump has said he lost the election yet criminally intended to overthrow it, can be held liable for defamation for actively supporting his criminal intent.
