Now let's do the same with the H-1Bs.

The Trump administration is moving ahead to allow an additional 30,000 seasonal workers to return to the U.S. this summer, a higher-than-expected number that reflects internal tensions in the White House’s approach to legal immigration.

A rule to issue the extra visas, known as H-2Bs, to foreign workers who have held them in the past was cleared last week by the White House Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs. The administration had earlier indicated it was leaning toward only an additional 15,000 such visas.

Landscapers, fisheries, county fairs and holiday resorts—including President Trump’s own golf and beach clubs—all use the H-2B program to fill lower-skilled jobs they say they can’t find Americans to do. Such visas have been capped at an annual 66,000—33,000 for summer, 33,000 for winter—and demand routinely outstrips supply. ...

Meanwhile, Jared Kushner, the president’s adviser and son-in-law, emboldened by success with the bipartisan criminal-justice overhaul passed by Congress last year, said he is finalizing a legislative proposal to overhaul immigration. He has consulted extensively with business advocates, and the result may be to offer a larger number of H-1B visas for high-skilled workers, with fewer restrictions such as on the number of green cards available for any one particular country.

Of course it's summertime and his properties are hiring and it helps with the next job report.

Well tramp could hire a lot of those asylum seekers but he doesn't want to pay unemployment or beniftis on them. His company just fired a lot of illegals.

We need a tight labor market for about 5O fucking years, to make up for the last 50, since the moronic 65 immigration bill.

66k, is a small number. My knee jerk opposition to this, is muted...somewhat...

The ones with wealth, power and influence will never let the workers of the US have the advantages that socialism gave the workers in the past..

That was what the 2016 election was about. The wealthy backed Hillary and she lost.

We don't need anymore white collar workers that is for sure.

I'm really glad to hear they upped the # of H2B Visas this year. It was so tight last year getting workers for the summer that some Maine tourist businesses that have operated for decades could not open.

Trump thought Americans would fill those jobs, but except for students, who around here can make a lot more money on a fishing boat, most people will hold onto their year-round jobs rather than go work for a mom and pop restaurant or fancy hotel for four or five months and then once again be unemployed.

I work at a camp and canoe joint during the summer since they are close and I have nothing else to do. I have tried to work in the towns around here but they claim I live to far yet I have lived here and driven to these towns when doing my trades...Here in the country there are few jobs after the summer months have gone...

Not at all what I said.

The Wealthy, as much as they are a group, backed Hillary. She was the status quo candidate, and Trump the candidate of the rebelling peasants with pitchforks.

And the Wealthy lost. So don't tell me what "CAN'T" be done.

That's an ideological narrative influenced by your belief system and not based in fact. It's a story spun to Trump's base. It's also class warfare no different than what the Left has engaged in for decades.

I work with extraordinarily wealthy people. I don't mean doctors and lawyers. I mean with people who make more in a day what doctors and lawyers make in a year. Not just the 1% but the 0.01%.

And the wealthy are about split 50/50 Republicans and Democrats.

It's true that a lot of those Republicans were Never Trumpers - mostly because they know him better than most and what a POS he is. But most of them voted for Trump anyways because they couldn't stand Hillary and wanted their taxes cut. They also genuinely believed that even though they thought Trump was a POS, he'd still be better for the economy than Hillary and the Democrats, which almost certainly has been the case.
