People in America do not see the true nature of capitalism and protest because they believe it to be something else entirely. It is a system where the weak fail and the strong flourish. Now this sounds like survival of the fittest which it is but there is a key difference. The weak can become the strong. If they work and actually want to improve their economic situation it can be done. People living in poverty can advance to middle class and the exceptional can even rise to upper class. Now what these protestors are protesting is that there is no economic equality which they are right in that sense. Though they are wrong in another, they don't deserve it. This is a country where you can accomplish almost anything if you are willing. Sometimes you may fail but if there is a will there is a way. Now some of these protestors are calling for socialism which actually kills the upper class and makes everything the same resulting in a weakened economic state. If they desire this they should move to China or North Korea and you can see the true nature of socialism and the wonders of capitalism. Now capitalism isn't perfect, nothing is, it I however the best we have. If you can think of something better please tell me and until someone does then capitalism shall be the best.

Another beauty of capitalism is that if the weak or poor chose to stay poor or lack the ability to advance beyond poverty they still get to enjoy most of the fruits of capitalism. Todays poor are richer than a King was 100 years ago. For the most part they have cars, houses, plazma TV, and state of the art health care.

Always remembering Capitalist GREED can be detrimental,as has been clearly seen in the USA over recent years but that comes down to controlling some of the worst elements, which did not happen....funny how when Capitalists/Banks for example get into trouble, its always the non capitalist "little man" who has to pay the price when bailing them out. Your assumption about China is out of kilter as there are millions of capitalist there and growing daily......in fact if they called in all their loans to say America, you would be living in mud huts.....such is your Capitalism..just saying tl:cool:

Every economic system has to deal with greed, and every other negative aspect of human behavior. Cuz every economic system is made up of human beings, with the same failings and flaws that will exist regardless of the system in place.

Capitalism without regulation is the Mafia.

Ah, no. The Mafia makes you an offer you can't refuse. Capitalism gives you choices. Agree though that regulation is required, the question is how much.

Glass-Steagall.

Of course it cracks me up to see retired military crowing about capitalism.

The U.S. military is the most socialist organization on the planet.

The military is all volunteer, dude. I made the choice to join and I made the choices to re-enlist or get out. I don't think a socialist organization gives you that choice.

Seriously, you think capitalism doesn't give choices to everyone involved, at least most of the time? If it doesn't then the gov't has screwed up in it's responsibilities to keep things open, honest, and transparent.

And BTW, the retired military crack was uncalled for. If I didn't know better I'd think you were trying to piss me off. Maybe another time.

You are confusing socialism with communism.

Big difference.

And the volunteer part? My friend just tried to retire from the military, and so they moved him and his family 1,000 miles away to a new city and made him stay in for two more years.

Doesn't sound very voluntary to me.

Unregulated capitalism ran a $516 trillion dollar Ponzi scheme that destroyed the world economy.

Unregulated capitalism spilled 2 million barrels of oil in the Gulf of Mexico.

Unregulated capitaiism created a hole in the ozone bigger than Antarctica.

Unregulated capitalism created a garbage patch in the Pacific Ocean twice the size of Texas.

Unregulated capitalism polluted our oceans with mercury.

Just out of idle curiosity, what would your perfect regulatory regime look like? Please be as specific as possible.

Your friend had a choice, he could have refused to go to the new assignment and left the military as soon as his enlistment contract was up. My guess is that he didn't have 20 years of service yet though, which is the minimum to receive retirement benefits. So he made the decision to extend his contract long enough to get to 20 years, and in so doing made himself eligible for a reassignment.

Absolutely wrong headed thinking, a specious defense without merit, and a strong argument for good Republicans to understand that capitalism must be regulated for the health and welfare of American society.

There's a difference between being unregulated and poorly regulated. Maybe the regulators didn't do their jobs as they should have.
