8-10 years breathing space seems pretty damn good to me!Those comments were made two years ago and as far as I know sanctions never stopped after the declaration of non support for sanctions. So, you've made no point at all.Nope! Not at all. It was not an inevitability even though Russia and China are always pulling against the West. So, what you're saying is that the sanctions were going to go away anyway? What leverage? The leverage is still there - it's the threat of future sanctions and the backing of the other negotiating partners.
Iran is the only side that gave anything away.
Russia, China and other Shanghai Cooperation Organization nations
have already stated sanctions against Iran are "unacceptable".
Sanctions against Iran unacceptable Russia China other SCO nations RT News
They are rushing all over themselves to do business with Iran and further sanctions from them are nearly impossible to imagine.
The Batman and Robin of ineffectual diplomacy (Obama and Kerry) have already committed us to a deal that removes all leverage and taken it to the UN
in an attempt to undercut and unduly influence Congress.
It's impossible to see what Iran has "given away" since they get all they wanted and more. All they have to do is wait. The deal is a bullshit sham and as such Obama would be right in considering it one of his shining accomplishments as president.
Obama and Kerry certainly made it in their interests, however, to end sanctions.
That's all on them.
You quoted "
Russia, China and other Shanghai Cooperation Organization nations
have already stated sanctions against Iran are "unacceptable"."
But, now you say that sanctions would likely stay.
I don't doubt it but sanctions can't have the rug pulled out from under it's own feet by the Obama regime and possibly be effective. Short of war or bombing suspected Iranian enrichment sites Obama negotiated away the only leverage we ever had on Iran. And even at that, Iran has slowly and secretly been trying to get their bomb. But, then, if as you say China and Russia are OK with sanctions (despite your own link), why do you doubt that the threat of sanctions can't work?
You're all over the shop.
Kerry admits that after this 8-10 year period of negotiated waiting we have no assurances Iran won't have it's bomb anyway. And meanwhile we've freed up billions of dollars for the Mullahs and ended arms and missile sanctions in the process. Assuming you don't want Iran to have a nuclear bomb Obama has negotiated a deal only a fool could love.
The Obama regime hasn't pulled the rug out from the sanctions regime at all...it was likely to be broken anyway.
This way, they have kept the Russians and Chinese on board and maintained the threat of sanctions.
Remember that there were more countries than the US and Iran involved in this deal.
If the US still wants to bomb them then I suppose they still can...Hooray, nothing has changed in that respect.
Another Middle Eastern country was subjected to crippling sanctions by the West in recent times as I recall.
That didn't work out too well.
