Some incidents have been reported where parents have left cannabis products (such as edibles) laying around the house and the kids got ahold of them and ended up in the hospital, but didn't die. The first reaction from conservatives is "see, marijuana is dangerous, we need to ban it or impose stricter regulations".

An incident is reported that a kid got ahold of a gun laying around the house, shoots and kills a sibling, but the conservative reaction is much different. It's "this was an isolated incident" and "parents need to be more careful", or "look at all the other things that children die from in the home, guns aren't the problem, we don't need more restrictions or banning of guns".

An investigation is underway to determine how the toddler got hold of the firearm.

The incident was reported at 7.30am local time on Monday when the San Diego County Sheriff's Department received a call about a shooting at a home in Fallbrook, about 56 miles north of San Diego.

They said that deputies arrived and confirmed a toddler had managed to get hold of an "unsecured handgun" and the one-year-old had sustained a head injury.

These events seem to be happening more and more. And yet nothing ever gets done. There doesnt even appear to be punishment for the parents. It appears to be an acceptable risk in the fight to retain guns.

I wonder if this type of incident is what the founders envisaged ?

If you cannot control the weapons in your home, you are too irresponsible to have weapons or children. Jail time, added to their grief, is appropriate, to drive the message home to them and send a message to others.

I'll halfway agree with you. The main cause of killings and murders are people who act in such a way as to take the life of another person.

But..................you gotta admit, guns make it much easier to take a life than other methods.
