Those Voices Don't Speak For The Rest Of Us

"I don't worry about the Constitution" and "What good is reading the bill?" really does say it all about Socialist/Progressive Democrats at this point. It's time for real change. Make 2010 count America.

Well done.

And with just a tiny fraction of "The Speech", (A Time For Choosing) to boot. Far and away the greatest political speech of all time. (Lincoln who? Kennedy what?)

Sadly, and I swear this is the first time I've done this here (I think) but I think we passed the point of no return under "W" Bush. Hard to nail down the exact date and there is no doubt that Gore or Kerry would have been worse (as Obama proves daily). Still, there is no going back to limited government sanity. At least not w/o or before a truely devistating economic crash the likes of which we have never seen. (God knows if we will ever recover to half of what we once were once that happens)

On edit:

I forgot to add... have a nice day! :p

True sad but true

"The more the plans fail the more the planners plan..."

Indeed.

A Government cannot control the economy without controlling people...

On January 11, 1989, in his last televised speech from the Oval Office, President Ronald Reagan, said: “An informed patriotism is what we want. And are we doing a good enough job teaching our children what America is and what she represents in the long history of the world? Those of us who are over 35 or so years of age grew up in a different America.

We were taught, very directly, what it means to be an American….We've got to do a better job of getting across that America is freedom--freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom of enterprise. And freedom is special and rare. It's fragile; it needs [protection]…. If we forget what we did, we won't know who we are.

I'm warning of an eradication of the American memory that could result, ultimately, in an erosion of the American spirit. Let's start with some basics: more attention to American history and a greater emphasis on civic ritual. And let me offer lesson number one about America: All great change in America begins at the dinner table. So, tomorrow night in the kitchen, I hope the talking begins. And children, if your parents haven't been teaching you what it means to be an American, let 'em know and nail 'em on it. That would be a very American thing to do."

I remember that speech well.

Reagan had clearly tired under the weight of the office, had survived assassination, illness, and the repeated poundings of the media and the Democrat Congress, but had remained intact of spirit and his foundational belief that America was indeed that shining city upon the hill - the last best hope for humankind.

Reagan remains our last great president - and sadly, America has stumbled badly since his passing.

Let us all hope America picks itself up again and returns to the path of common sense government...

Thank you for that - entertaining, but also sadly right on the mark.

And I actually got a bit choked up with the Reagan reference at the end...:(

I likely would have too were I not so F'ing manly. ;)

The video is now getting wide circulation - and rightly so!!

Reagans parts was before he became president.

Remember Reagan used to be a Democrat till he married nancy.

The only great thing that did come out of the Democratic party. Howw ever he was a conservative long before he was a Republican

Reagan marries actress Nancy Davis in 1952; Patti born several months later; Ron, Jr., born in 1958; Reagan's movie career begins to fade; offered job as host of G.E. Theater on television; develops oratory and political skills; reducing size of government becomes his political mission; after 8 years with G.E., Reagan emerges as a conservative

Reagan switches from Democrat to Republican; becomes national figure after speech endorsing Republican presidential candidate Barry Goldwater in 1964; beats incumbent Pat Brown in race for governor of California in 1966; cultivates "American West" image and promotes a return to "traditional" values; Nancy's refusal to live in the governor's mansion draws sharp criticism; at 1968 Republican Convention conservatives back Reagan, but Nixon wins nomination

____

The Reagan clips are from his epic "A Time For Choosing" speech he made in support of Barry Goldwater in 1964 - 16 years prior to his own successful run for president. He had campaigned for both Eisenhower and Nixon in 1952, 1956, and 1960 respectively.

Reagan was very much a conservative and a Republican at that time - and had been so for a number of years prior.

Yet anytime you and I question the schemes of the do-gooders, we're denounced as being against their humanitarian goals. They say we're always "against" things—we're never "for" anything.

Well, the trouble with our liberal friends is not that they're ignorant; it's just that they know so much that isn't so.

You would do well to watch the entire speech - it is among the most concise and accurate foretellings of a nation's shortcomings - and incredibly relevant to the troubles our nation faces today...
