>> The Acteal massacre was a massacre of 45 people attending a prayer meeting of Roman Catholic indigenous townspeople, including a number of children and pregnant women, who were members of the pacifist group Las Abejas ("The Bees"), in the small village of Acteal in the municipality of Chenalhó, in the Mexican state of Chiapas. It was carried out on December 22, 1997, by the paramilitary group Mascara Roja, or Red Mask. << --- Wiki

Nine men, twenty-one women, four of whom were pregnant, and fifteen children as young as one, were slaughtered by paramilitary invaders Soldiers stationed not far away did not intervene even though the massacre went on for hours, but were seen cleaning up blood the next day from the chapel walls. The aggressors reportedly shot and stabbed the pregnant women in the belly intentionally to ensure the slaughter of the unborn as well as the mothers.

The victims were all poor Tzotzil Native Americans.

The forces of violence will always attack the peace. Pacifism must be resilient, but also justice must be done. Remember the martyrs. El pueblo unido jamás será vencido. (The people united will never be defeated)
