An F-16 pilot had an inflight emergency while on a mission over ISIL-terriority last year. His stricken jet had only 15 minutes of fuel but luckily for him, a KC-135 from the 384th Air Refueling Squadron was around to save his jet from fuel starvation

(side note; Tankers have done this and more. More than once, an AF Tanker stayed hooked up to a F-4 with only one engine running at less than 60%. They would put them on final and disconnect just before touchdown. We had one F-4 that was shot up pretty bad. The loss of fuel and one engine. They tried to get a tanker to him but none were available in time. They would fly under him inverted trying to get him enough altitude to make it to any landing strip. The Nav had punched out but the pilot was unable to use his ejection seat and was too wounded to do a manual bail out. They got him within two miles of Ubon RTAB before they had to abandon all efforts. The F-4 was scattered all the way to the end of the runway after impact. The want of a Tanker is all I can say.
