It’s no use going back to yesterday, because I was a different person then.
-- Lewis Carroll, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland

I don't belong to any political parties because all of them have people leading them who, sure as God made little green apples, no sooner than does one say, "Well, I think 'so and so' is pretty good," will say among the most monumentally inane things a person can possibly say, and do so with a totally straight face, as though they think audience members don't see just how "effing" stupid their remark was.

To wit, Rand Paul is a Senator whom I've said I think it's too bad, even though I am sure not enough of Ron's good sense filtered into Rand's head. Be that as it may, a few days ago, speaking about Trump's s-hole remark, Rand said the following:

"Let's take the whole scenario and put different words in there and let's say, 'We'd rather have people from economically-prosperous countries than economically-deprived countries.' Or, 'We realize that there are more problems in economically-deprived countries, therefore there's a bigger impetus for them to want to come.' Then it wouldn't have been so controversial."

Seriously, Rand!?! No sh*t, Sherlock! What on Earth possessed Rand to, in effect, say something as inane as "if he didn't say what he did say, then it wouldn't be so bad."

Of "effing" course, if Trump had said something completely different from what he did say, and what he said was roughly what Rand said, Trump's remarks would would have been less controversial. The Santa at the mall isn't controversial for saying "Ho, ho, ho. Merry Christmas," but if he said "She' a Ho, she's a ho, and she's ho. Merry F*cking Christmas," it'd be either controversial or a porn movie.

“Contrariwise," continued Tweedledee, "if it was so, it might be; and if it were so, it would be; but as it isn't, it ain't. That's logic."
-- Lewis Carroll, Through the Looking Glass

If a politician's lips are moving it's most likely a lie.
I understand what you mean, I think, and to the extent yours is the figurative meaning I suspect you have in mind, I agree with you, but also I want to be on record as noting that I don't believe your statement to be literally true.
