This guy is getting paid 300 million dollars, should Cortez invoke the 70% tax and take 210 million

Is it fair a baseball player can make 300 million dollars but a vendor makes minimum wage?

Money talks: Padres' big offer brings Manny Machado to San Diego
PEORIA, Ariz. — It may not have been Manny Machado’s first choice, but money talks, and on Tuesday morning the free-agent infielder agreed to a 10-year, $300 million contract with the San Diego Padres that will be finalized once he passes his physical, a person with direct knowledge of the contract told USA TODAY Sports.
So this guy who doesnt employ anyone but his agent, is going to be paid more than most CEO's. Is it fair that he is getting so much more than a hotdog vendor in the stands who makes minimum wage or an umpire behind home plate?

Should the hot dog vendor learn to play ball as well as Machado, he may find the opportunity to make 30 mil a year too!

Ain't America grand? :113:

Tax him as much as you need to, we have aircraft carriers to maintain.

Give him some loopholes if he makes investments that help America.

Trust me, the man wants us tobhave well paid cops to protect him and his children from blackmailers who might kidnap them.

His agent also.

So the vendor who makes minimum wage, should have to be taxed the same as the ballplayer so he can help maintain A/C carriers, and have police to protect him?

Actually, professional athletes are in the WORST possible position when it comes to taxes. Their salary is public information, little of it can be deferred, and the kinds of "tricks" that entrepreneurs can use to hide and defer income don't work very well for them. Also, many CITIES and STATES have tax provisions that are specifically tailored to attack the wages of highly-paid entertainers who come into the city/state for short-term, highly paid performances.

FYI, when the Federal Tax Code included marginal tax rates over 50%, there was an overriding provision that capped income tax at 50% of AGI. When I was taking a tax course in the 70's, we were told just to assume a 50% rate for highly paid individuals (the top marginal income tax rate was over 70% at the time).

But the point is that Socialists are too stupid to realize that the REAL high earners will always figure out a way to avoid excessive taxation. They will even leave the country if it comes to that. The expected additional revenues from such taxes AT BEST stick around for a year or so.

Watched him playing for the Bowie Baysox on July 4 a few years back. During infield warmups between innings even my wife — who is not a big sports fan — could tell that he was way, way smoother than any other player on the field. Couldn’t figure out why he was still in the minors until I saw his BA was only .218. He fixed that.

Maybe the hot dog guy is getting taxed at the same percentage of trouble protecting his assests is. Or the same percentage of the american dream he's achieved.

How many minimum wage workers would it take to earn 300 milllion? nearly 19,894 workers.

It was so horrible in our past, wasnt it...
