This Election!

We won't be beyond it until it can no longer be used as a distraction from the issues that really do matter... The good news is that it is becoming less of a distraction, at least 'till times get good again.

The good news is America is morphing into something new. The younger generation do not carry the ignorant gene of their parents and the older more racist generation is dying, shrinking, and wilting away.

American demographics are changing .. which may signal the death of the Republican Party as we know it today ..

I don't disagree with you .. but mixing the arguments doesn't properly address anything.

What women and children face is different than what African-Americans face.

What illegal immigrants face is different than what women and children face.

What African-Americans face is different than what illegal immigrants face.

All of these issues should be addressed but within their own context and sphere, because the solutions for one is not the solution for the others.

Did you know that women, specifically white women, are the major beneficiaries of affirmative action? Anything in America is just easier to attack if you put a black face on it.

I believe I am saying that inequalities are inevitable in a pluralistic society.

This does not mean that they should not be addressed, just that they do not necessarily equate to malicious intent in all cases.

And the death of America as we've known it for the past 230 plus years

There is hardly any question of malicious intent regarding the issues I spoke of.

The only question is at what point does that pluralistic society find the will to do something about it.

The Republican Party is not America, and it wouldn't be the first time it has died. The Republican Party began as an anti-slavery party .. and until the fifties, most blacks were republicans.

As for the death of America .. it won't die, but change will come that may in fact leave a better America.. It cannot continue to exist stck in the past.

Better?

less liberties, more government, higher taxes, nationalized banks and companies

yeah I guess that's better.......NOT.

The world is a very racist place. What you see happening in America today pales in comparison with what happens in many other countries. That said, I suspect there will be a sizeable percentage of white Democrats who simply will not vote for Obama because he is black. That's just the reality of the situation now.

That is so not true, Europe does a lot better with race relations then we've ever done. Stop making excuses for ignorance by saying it could be worse.

I never said anything about Europe. I said "what happens in many other countries." However, since you mentioned it, Europe is a very white place. Why is that? Anytime you inject someone of another race or culture (like people from Turkey, for example) into a European country, you get racism.

It is up to you... your planet is at a crossroads. This place will be either awesome in 50 years or it will absolutely suck once again to be human. Depends on how much of your infrastructure gets destroyed in the coming down shift in how ownership of the planets resources is defined.

For the past 100 years or so the odds of being born on this planet into a reasonable situation with some opportunities for happiness have been drawing closer and closer to 50 / 50.

300 years ago the odds of being born into the servitude of another human were closer to 90%, especially anywhere that Western Civilization had any real influence; but every society had some sense of and style for 'thirst for power'.

Ain't it so cool that America is the point, if you will in the crossroads of racial relations on this planet? At least insofar as the survival of Western Civilization is concerned...

If the standard of living that is the promise of "America" actually can get to the point where it crosses racial and cultural lines successfully enough that a majority of the world sees it as possible, this will go a long way toward healing some of the European stupidities of the last 600 years and graduating this planet out of the era of colonialism. Then you can reach for the stars.

This ain't about the planet

Interesting to note that throughout our history African-Americans have gone to europe to enjoy freedoms that didn't have in the US. This is especially true of black entertainers. They were hailed as heroes and heroines in europe .. but couldn't go to the bathroom without racism in America.

Not quite throughout history there BAC. There was a short time in history when Europeans brought Africans home and into slavery... it just turned out to be much more profitable to send them to the "New" world to work plantations on all that "free" land they found.

Europeans didn't stop practicing slavery because they could make more money sending slaves to America. They stopped because it was an ungodly sub-human act.

American slavery has its own unique place in the annuals of sub-human behavior.

From Josephine Baker to WEB Dubois to Mary Church Terrell to a litany of great jazz and popular music artists .. African-Americans have found refuge in europe where they was hate at home.

Read the Josephine Baker story.

Just don't forget how hard it was to change the policies of slavery in Europe and don't forget the genealogy of the American slave owners.

Also, don't forget how much influence Europe still had in the 'new' world when slavery was abolished there... if they had cared as much about people as profits they would have stopped it world wide instead of just in their own house.

Slavery was long lasting because it was profitable.

Slavery lasted in America long after it was abolished in europe .. but more importantly and germaine to this conversation, after slavery was abolished in the US, it was followed by another 100 years of Jim Crow terrorism .. and as I've said, African-Americans found refuge in europe.
