What was that gibberish about? WWIII hasn’t happened yet.

Yes. It hasn't happened yet. That's why we can plan different strategies for it. We may choose to win it it with minimal losses (may be even less than 0,1% of our population) or we may choose to be defeated (and may be even loss up to 90% of our population and be virtually annihilated).
The best scenario - we do not join the war as long as we can (at least unless all other sides have used their nukes against each other) and then - finish the war with all our nuclear, conventional military and industrial potential.
