Netflix has a seven episode series called the "The Queen's Gambit".

It is a fictional story about a girl that becomes an International chess champion in the 1960s.

It is a very good series. The first episode is a little slow setting up the story line but after that it seemed as each episode was better and better. Great ending.

The chick that plays the lead in this is absolutely stunning.

Even though the promo tires to make it seem so it is really not a "girl power" show. Only minor woke parts.

Yea, essentially she is a drug abuser that has a tremendous chess ability and starts sleeping around.

Then at the end of the movie, all they guys she shagged team up to try and help her win a chess match against the best chess player in the world.

The bonus is, the movie belittles those of faith and also elevates communism as just fine. But Hollyweird does that in all their movies now.

Wife and I watched the series and enjoyed

They showed the communists bugging the hotel rooms and having the Grand Master escorted by KGB all the time.
Didn’t look just fine to me.

They showed the Russian people as obsessed with Chess and willing to cheer for an American woman because of her talent

100% agreed. I only wish Walter Tevis (author of the book it's based on) didn't live to see it come to life on the screen. This is a wonderful series! BTW - that "chick" is a British girl. Anna Taylor - Joy. She did a pretty good America accent.

That is the way it was in the '60s. The Russians were the best in the world for the most part and took the chess game very seriously. I remember watching the USA and Russian competition as a kid and it was fascinating.

The Bobby Fisher/Boris Spasky match was top news and covered live. Only time I ever saw America care about Chess

I watched the whole series this weekend (7 episodes I think). I was a bit of a chess nerd in high school and I actually read a book about a the queen's gambit chess strategy. While I was in high school, I got to actually play against a chess master -- of course he was also playing separate chess games with about 15 other people at the same time. He kicked my ass along with most everyone else playing against him in the room. I don't remember if anyone in the room defeated him or not but it was a great (and humbling) experience for me. At any rate, I enjoyed the scene from the movie in which Beth played against an entire chess club in a similar fashion as I experienced when the master chess player wiped out my town's chess club.

Also, it was nice that Beth Harmon was a hot redhead in the movie.

They showed how some "Evangelical" Christians offered her money to go to the tournament so long as she condemned communism and pretended to be a Christian. They were just a vacuous group that I'm sure you think perfectly represent those people, but then, Lefties are bigoted but still PC at the same time. Must be nice.

Hollywood are all a bunch of asshats.

Sure, they showed the KGB bugging rooms but by in large attempted to show that their system of government was not really any worse than any other.

But considering how far the NSA has come as well as the Leftists in the US today, maybe they are right.

I don’t think they represented all Christians, but it was a realistic depiction of Evangelicals. Beth was unwilling to abandon her values for some easy cash.

They did not put the Communists in good light but they also did not put the US government in good light either. Our Government was unwilling to help pay for her trip to Moscow but jumped at the chance to exploit her win.

So it adequately represented all evangelicals?

Got it you bigoted turd.

As for the US not helping her fight the Russian, it certainly helped Bobby Fishers to beat the Russians, so in that aspect, was completely bogus.

No, instead of demonizing governments that use us all like pawns, they dumped on evangelicals cuz government has become our lord and savior.

In the movie, BH went to the Soviet Union to play chess, not to make political or religious statements. Even though I am both a Christian and against communism, I was glad that she did not cave into making political or religious statements.

The ending in which she was adored by the Russian chess players kind of reminded me of Rocky IV.

They showed the difficulties of playing high level chess in this country. The total lack of support for chess.

Evangelicals tried to exploit Beth and she told them to fuk off
The Government tried to exploit her victory and she told the government to fuk off.

It was her friends and the chess community that supported her.

What you say is true. Hollywood had to get in their little jabs like they always do and that detracted from the story. However, it was minor compared to most of what you see out of the Hollywood assholes nowadays.

The series was excellent and if you got to the episode where that happen then it must of held your attention.

I imagine anybody that it is an international chess champion is a little screwed up in the mind a little bit.

She has a fine ass.

She was born in Miami so we will claim her as an American, although she lived most of her life elsewhere.

The commentators were excellent and created an aura of exciting competition.

You have some nerve talking about the champ's ass on live internet! That being said, I agree.
