The Other Ferguson Tragedy

As is common in these situation, liberal and black America ignore, to the point of denial, the real tragedy. Tired platitudes like whites (and Hispanics together) kill as much as blacks is supposed to mitigate an astounding violent crime rate endemic to black communities. A well written article which deals with just that is below. It is really designed only for those who acknowledge the problem:

According to the FBI, homicide is the leading cause of death among young black men, who are 10 times more likely than their white counterparts to be murdered. And while you’d never know it watching MSNBC, the police are not to blame. Blacks are just 13% of the population but responsible for a majority of all murders in the U.S., and more than 90% of black murder victims are killed by other blacks. Liberals like to point out that most whites are killed by other whites, too. That’s true but beside the point given that the white crime rate is so much lower than the black rate.

Blacks commit violent crimes at 7 to 10 times the rate that whites do. The fact that their victims tend to be of the same race suggests that young black men in the ghetto live in danger of being shot by each other, not cops. Nor is this a function of “over-policing” certain neighborhoods to juice black arrest rates. Research has long shown that the rate at which blacks are arrested is nearly identical to the rate at which crime victims identify blacks as their assailants. The police are in these communities because that’s where the emergency calls originate, and they spend much of their time trying to stop residents of the same race from harming one another.

The truth is so ugly that merely to state it is deemed by many to be indicative of a racist heart.

The rightful blame for our cultural blight rests so disproportionately on the shoulders of Young Black Youth that one is absolutely forbidden in many circles to address it.

Let us count the ways:

Violent Crime,
Drug-related crimes and drug-related social blight,
High School dropout rates,
Illegitimate parenting and low birth weight,
Unemployment,
Alcoholism,
Incarceration and recidivism.

And note that there are only a few of these phenomena that have any conceivable relationship to discrimination by the "White" community. Indeed, the "White" community expends extraordinary efforts and resources, (1) policing crime in the "Black" community, (2) feeding, clothing, and housing needy "Blacks," (3) trying to prevent disruptive and un-interested "Black" youths from dropping out of high school, (4) supporting the hundreds of thousands of Young Black Males who are in jails, prisons, rehab centers, and on probation and parole.

In a less quantitative way, look also at the cultural blight caused by barely civilized "Black" musicians and athletes whose behavior and lyrics negatively influence all of America's youth, regardless of ethnicity. Witness who is mainly buying Hip Hop CD's and whatnot. White kids.

In my racist heart I often note that many of supposed ills of "America" - e.g., mediocre test scores when compared to Europe and Asia, high infant mortality rates, etc - would simply go away like magic if one were to look at the White and Asian communities exclusively, and consider the "Black" and "Hispanic" data as being one-off or aberrant. Not that the "White" community doesn't have its fair share of miscreants, laggards, criminals, and ass-holes, it's just that adding Young Black Youth into the mix makes us appear to the world like a nation of self-importand mediocrities. For example, the average test scores in my "lily white" suburban school district are on a par with the countries in Asia and Europe that we are told we must emulate. But throw the scores from the local urban areas into the mix, and our combined academic standing lines up with Liberia and Sierra Leone.

The recent reactions of the "Black" Intelligencia to the Ferguson thing might lead one close to despair. If the "smart" "Blacks" are this oblivious to reality, what hope is there for the rest of them.

None, I fear.

Missouri Police Officer Who Shot Unarmed Teen Resigns
November 29, 2014 ~ The white Missouri police officer who escaped indictment in the fatal shooting of an unarmed black teen in August has resigned.

The resignation of Officer Darren Wilson, who shot and killed Michael Brown after a street confrontation in the St. Louis suburb of Ferguson, is effective immediately, his lawyer said Saturday. Wilson had been on administrative leave since the shooting. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch posted Wilson's resignation letter. He wrote that he had been told his continued employment on the police force might put his fellow officers and Ferguson residents at risk. He added that he hoped his resignation would allow the community to heal. Protests continued Saturday in the U.S. in the wake of a grand jury's decision Monday not to charge Wilson in the shooting of Brown, 18.

Hours before Wilson resigned, a seven-day march called the "Journey for Justice," organized by the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, began in Ferguson. The marchers are heading to Jefferson City, Missouri's capital, more than 190 kilometers (almost 120 miles) away. About 100 people were expected to take part initially, with more joining segments of the long walk and about 1,000 expected to be part of the final portion, an NAACP staff member told Reuters.

The NAACP said the purpose of the march was to "to call for new leadership of the Ferguson Police Department" and "new reforms of police practice and culture" across the country. It said rallies and teach-ins would be held along the route each night of the march. Demonstrations have been held nationwide since the decision not to indict Wilson was announced. In the Washington, D.C., area Saturday, hundreds of people angry about the Ferguson decision marched on a local shopping mall after rallying in the historic Georgetown neighborhood.

Saturday's protests followed demonstrations coinciding with Black Friday, the traditional kickoff to the holiday shopping season. Protesters in the St. Louis area, Chicago, New York and other U.S. cities called for a shopping boycott as a show of solidarity. Three St. Louis-area malls were reportedly shut down briefly as a result of the demonstrations. Police said 16 people were arrested in Ferguson overnight. Brown's killing has inflamed racial tensions in the country and has reignited concerns about police brutality, especially against the nation's black population.
