Not comparing numbers of people, but percentage wise,
the percentage of whites in the South who were slave owners versus citizens not wealthy enough
was parallel to the percentage of blacks who were slave owners (according to a video that cited Ellison).

If that is so, then this seems to indicate that slave ownership was by CLASS, where a certain %
of both whites and blacks was independently wealthy enough to manage their own slave business as Ellison did as a trader.

NOTE: With RACE this is an ADDED factor
A. Genocide was committed to annihilate the family lines of the negro slaves to subjugate them
B. Rape/forced breeding was done using black males on both black and white/Irish slaves to produce more black slaves
C. Keeping slaves demarcated with dark skin helped to distinguish them, so Race WAS used to divide white from black

Even blacks can be racist against blacks.
Just like both men and women can be sexist and demean women while giving more authority and privileges to men.

So just because blacks participated in slavery
doesn't mean it wasn't racial oppression of blacks.
Whether done by black or white traders,
It still was targeting, subjugating and dividing blacks to enslave them.

slavery is slavery !! I agree that it was racial oppression !! but that does not excuse the arab muslim and black overlords who profited in the past and in some places are still practicing it today ! and to reap all the blame on race of people for slavery in the past and direct no blame to blacks and muslims in the past and who still practice slavery and human trafficking today is racist !
