According to the Deputy Chief of Base, when the Deputy told the Chief the diplomatic mission was under attack and the Annex needed to send a rescue team. the Chief made the decision to send the teamn "instantly of the spot... without equivocation."

Since Vietnam it seems that the unelected bureaucrats in the CIA have been dictating strategy and policy to the career leaders in the U.S. Military mostly during democrat administrations and it hasn't gone well. Somebody needs to drain the freaking swamp.
