The Holiest Man, In The Holiest Spot, At The Holiest Time, Condemns Violence

The haj sermon this year – one of the highlights of the three-day pilgrimage that millions of Muslims make to Mecca every year – has received special attention in the media all over the Muslim world. Excerpts from the sermon, which condemns terrorism and extremism and advocates moderation, have been reproduced in hundreds of newspapers. Videos of the sermon with English subtitles are circulating widely by email and have been posted on websites like YouTube. It seems that the Muslim world has embraced the message enthusiastically.

The haj is a transformative experience for most Muslims. The African American civil rights leader Malcolm X abandoned his anti-white views after participating in the haj and had a huge impact on Muslim youth throughout the United States.

This year the haj sermon was given by the Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia, Sheikh Abdul Aziz al-Sheikh.

He spoke about the consequences when human security is absent: the suffering of women and children, chaos and an absence of peace and prosperity. Islam is a religion of mercy and moderation. Spreading violence, hatred and extremism, Sheikh Abdul Aziz said, is against the ethics of Islam. Islam’s goal is to spread peace and security in all its forms, and he called on Muslim communities to uphold the ethics and teachings of Islam.
altmuslim - The haj: From Mecca, a promising speech

This is an invitation to open your mind, and take in that Islam is not coextensive with violence. Not an invitation to bash Muslim Americans.

Discuss.

If he is still alive, and not hiding, or being escorted everywhere by bodyguards, this time next year, I might conclude that I am wrong about Islam. I wouldn't hold my breathe though.

I'm a little bit suspicious of any religion that doesn't allow bacon.

does this mean you will be going to stromfront....jews dont eat the pork either.....sometimes i am amazed at the similarties in jews and muslims
During the time of Muhammad there were arab tribes that were Jewish.

Muhammad had friends and business associates that were arab jews.

And one of his wives was a Jewish woman.

Lots of powerful men had wives from people they wanted to kill, it was a status symbol back then. Or did you think I was as ignorant of history as you try to pretend you are?

I'd imagine, after that speech, the Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia needs bodyguards. I'm not sure what your point is. A leading Muslim took a stand against violence and extremism which has rattled the Islamic world.

Isn't that what we non-Muslims have been calling on moderate Muslims to do?

Not me. I already know of Muslims who take a stand against the violence, most of them end up dead. What I want Muslims to do is speak out en masse until it is clear that violence is not acceptable, and that only a few nutcases try to justify it. I then want them to reform Islam the way Martin Luther reformed Christianity, speak out against imposing Sharia law on non believers, and generally accept that people can have different opinions. That will take decades at least, so I do not expect to see the results. I would, however, like to see the beginning.

You can settle for "moderate" Muslims speaking out against violence if you want, but it will not keep your descendants safe from Islam.

Explain in detail how it works, what it means and produce the bloodline from two sources.
I am not your employee.

Look it up yourself.

Mohammad has no connection to Ishmael or Abraham.

Most Christian, Jewish, and Muslim scholars, say that he does.

You made this claim I would have assumed it was based on some facts
beyond Mohammad's claim of a revelation from Gabriel that he was a descendant of Mudar.

I put forward that facts are not when one has their head firmly ensconced in their nether regions as Sunni Man has done. It is so comfortable that he has lost track of the reality train and now runs on the wishful and hopeful post.

There's not much use discussing with a troll other than pulling them up to their troll.

That seems already accomplished in this thread, so I will just move on.
