Couldn't be simpler. There are two kinds of love. Most operate on one to the exclusion of the other. Not good.

I know a woman who loves her baby girl with all her heart, but is turning her into a whiny little brat because she isn't using her head.

But a different topic, different issue. Love for one's child, however much we bungle parenting, is not agape love and not what Jesus was describing when he said love our neighbor as ourself.

It is well known that 'Christianity' was hijacked early on. The true church was in hiding for most of its history. It only burst forth when God provided a land where it could flourish free from the Holy Roman Empire.
