The Future Of Afghanistan

China wants to extend the China–Pakistan Economic Corridor that it has spent tens of billion to Afghanistan. However, China has made it clear that they are not willing to invest in Afghanistan until the Taliban stabilizes the country and disassociates with Isis and Al Qaeda.
They are already invested, they won't walk away and they can't wait too long. Can the Taliban even disassociate with Al Qaeda? The whole IS-K situation is murky, are they enemies or simply the Taliban's new clean up crew? What we've been told and what we see don't really add up. Not to mention it only takes one charismatic imam to point out that there are millions of oppressed Muslims in China.

It will be a wait see. The Taliban support is not what it was in the mid 90s. In those days the Taliban, was the only real option in the minds of most Afghans. Russia had pulled out but not the communist governments that were running the country. The government was openly corrupt and unable to deal with the humanitarian crisis nor Mujahedeen who were pillaging cities and town across the country. When they took control in 1996, the healthcare systems was one of the worst in the world world. One fourth all children never saw their 5th birthday. Hospitals were basically a place to die. 50% of all roads were judge to be unpassable. After 5 years of governing, little progress was made in solving the countries problems and the civil war against the Taliban never really ended till the Americans unseated them.

The Taliban is now back in power in a county that is far different than 20 years ago. With their lack of experience in governing and international diplomacy, and an educated most secular society in Kabul, it's going to be interesting.
