The End of the Internet? Cybersecurity Act gives Obama power to shut down internet, i

this seems to mostly be about the prevention of virus epidemics and infrastructure attacks. Unfortunately, it includes a rather dangerous provision in Sec 18 subsection 2 which reads:

It seems that's just for if a secured system, eg, the pentagon or banks get compromised by cyber attack.

It doesnt appear to be that nefarious...

The Patriot Act didn't appear very nefarious either now, did it?

yes... it did... because it allowed warrantless searches.

you understand the difference, right? You know, that pesky little 4th amendment thing.

And just how does one man deciding to shut down the internet because he wants to differ from that?
Shutting down the internet involves shutting down the press, free speech, and a host of other things, doesn't it?

The FCC wasn't designed to bleep out stupid words either ... or force them to edit music ... or ... well, you should get the idea. It was just suppose to make sure the media didn't break the law. There is no law against saying "fuck" ... unless somehow I got teleported to another country.

KK pulling a KK and Willow pulling a Willow! Whodathunkit?

btw: The Patriot Act is so much worse than this that comparisons are laughable. You guys crack me up sometimes... most times.

Reading through the full text, I find this,

To me, "interest groups and advocacy organizations" means "we know better than you and are here to protect you because you are an idiot that needs a nanny-state to take care of you".

 Oh no! Not advice and information! Oh my!

None of it means anyone has the power to shut down the internet. :doubt:

Read before you post.

I don't think that Time Warner Cable or Verizon DSL would be considered "Federal Government or United States critical infrastructure information system or network"

Aah .. but you forget the "give an inch ..." problem with the government. How long until they amend it or pass more if this one is allowed.

I believe this bill is intended to address a real vulnerability. I'm not wildly opposed to the concept. What I'd like to know is does it really help? I guess it could, but I can't help thinking that if a cyber-vulnerability is actually exploited, even shutting down the internet may be too late if the damage is done.

Wow, I think it's incredibly likely that Herr Obama will grasp power in his slim brown fingers like a previous democratic socialist, and run to tyranny.

Good grief, y'all. Paranoid much?
