The Economist Calls Out Romney On His Budget Plan

The criticism of Romney by The Economist is legitimate and they are not the first to discuss the particular weakness described in the article.

Romney is being a jerk, basically. He is saying that his tax plan calls for a major tax reform which eliminates tax expenditures (write-offs, deductions, subsidies, whatever you wish to call them) which will then allow him to lower the tax margins.

Like has been said about communism, it sounds great on paper. But he gives no specifics about which tax expenditures he would eliminate, and that is where he becomes a coward.

Will he eliminate the mortgage interest deduction, for example? He won't say.

Since he won't say exactly what expenditures he will eliminate, then his claims of "savings" which can then be used to give everyone tax cuts is completely BOGUS.

He is showing his mile-wide yellow streak so typical of the GOP these days.

The fact is that the middle class receives more in tax expenditures than it would receive in benefit from a Romney tax cut. That is why so many reports say the Romney tax plan will raise taxes on the middle class.

The ignorance of Romney supporters on this issue is evident in the fact they are not demanding details from Romney about his tax plan.

That is more than ignorance. To assume he won't fuck them over is just plain stupidity.
