The Trump phenomenon cannot be ignored, as he has radicalized and dumbed down the right, taken over most of the Republican Party, and is now being prosecuted for crimes, including conspiring to stop the legitimate transfer of power after losing in 2020.

On the other hand, that “dumbing down” is reflected in the inability of his supporters to discuss complex issues respectfully and responsibly, especially with liberals, or anti-Trump Republicans & Independents, all of whom they prefer to insult and call names.

Frankly I can’t remember running into a single Trump supporter here who has shown serious interest in “discussing tough issues” in other than absurd one dimensional terms — almost all quickly resort to insults or simply ignore you if you write subtly or make arguments they cannot answer, or have never even considered.

I felt the same way when I saw it. This was 3 or 4 years ago, and it's much worse now than then. At that time Shoots Speeders and Steve McGarrett were the only openly racist posters saying non whites are inferior, and nobody was shit talking Jews.

The right wing posters at the time could at least discuss policy in a semi-intelligent manner. But just like the Republican Party itself, the sensible conservatives have either left the forum or switched sides, however temporary that change might be.

Today their only responses are "Liar", "moron", or "NAZI/commie", sometimes both.

True, it’s gotten worse, but I hold out hope that people will break out of the MAGA cult and return to being true Americans.

Our healthcare system never ran out of PPE or Respirators. Mask mandates and lockdowns kept OUR healthcare system from EVER being overwhelmed, although it was a near thing at the height of the pandemic .

Trump spent all of that money to develop the vaccine, but didn't but any vaccines beyond his first order, instead signing an Executive Order banning the export of any vaccines, until the USA was fully vaccinated. Talk about "socialism"!!! What happened to "free market capitalism".

Canada bought vaccines at every opportunity. We were swimming in it, and then ended up donating a lot of it to Third World countries because we were fully vaccinated and up for re-opening in September, 2022. When Trump signed his EO to ban shipments to Canada, Pfizer simply shipped our order from Germany, causing about a 2 week delay in our receiving it.

We lost very few health care workers to the virus, because they ALWAYS had masks, gowns and PPE, and our hospitals weren't overwhelmed. But we did lose a LOT of healthcare workers from burn out, exhaustion, and quite frankly, fear that they might not be lucky enough to survive the next pandemic. Trump banned exports of American PPE to Canada - that was our third restocking order, and Trump was forced to lift the ban 3 days later.

Trudeau signed a contract with Amazon for shipping our PPE so that the feds ordered all PPE, medical supplies and equipment required, and Amazon handled the delivery of all orders from the suppliers to the individual hospitals requiring the supplies. Canadians received the economies of national purchasing power, without the additional layers of expense in storage and redistribution.

Our economy never crashed, and both our Prime Minister and the Ontario Premier were re-elected almost entirely on the basis of their handling of the pandemic. All political infighting ceased while the pandemic raged. Country over Party - imagine that!

Trump and the Republicans politicized the pandemic, botched the American response so badly that 100,000 people died just last year because Republicans have sold their voters the idea that mainstream medicine is keeping the pandemic going for profit, and vaccines are a hoax, and nothing more.

I have no idea what site it was. It was years ago, and I stumbled on it by accident, while looking for a better place to discuss politics than this one. One with conservative posters still capable of discussing issues.

I don't have an issue with their "incoherence", but with their inability to do anything beyond trolling the threads, calling posters who add actual content and discussions "liars" or "morons".

I have never seen that behaviour in any other forum I've ever posted in, save this one. Even RSSIF, at its worst, was never as bad as this forum in allowing imbeciles to troll the forum.
