I've always beamed when I thought about Tocqueville's views on American exceptionalism.

But in the light of the last several decades' Ameican foreign policy, I often consider his view that Muslim counties can never have democracy, since the laws in these countries have a legal system arising from theology.

Tocqueville was prescient in your quote.

Is he also as far as Islam?
