That Pesky Constitution

This is what Lieu said:

"The First Amendment prevents me from doing so. And that’s simply a function of the First Amendment. But I think over the long run, it’s better the government does not regulate the content of speech. I would urge these private sector companies to regulate it better themselves.”

I would remind you the Bill of Rights was drafted by "liberals" and that it is and are "liberal" courts that are the most ardent supporters of free speech and the free press. It is the right that advocates for press suppression and engages in anti-press rhetoric. Look at the rightist posts on this board.
A. He’s supporting the suppression of speech.

B. The Founding Fathers are the anti Democratic Party of Liberty and God haters today.
The government should never be the speech regulating business, but realistically, notwithstanding Lieu's comments, the right has been in the speech regulating business as well. The Patriot Act was nothing but monitoring what people say to one another. You can't cry fire in a crowded theater, you can't threaten politicians, write about terrorist actions, etc. without a visit from the FBI, and rightfully so.

Politically correct speech can get ridiculous, but Lieu was asking for private action and not governmental action. And please do nor kid yourself, the right has its own form of political correctness as well.
“I would love to be able to regulate the content of speech, but the First Amendment prevents me from doing so.”

You lied in typical Leftard fashion.
Typical Trumpist moron to give half a quote and call it truth.
You’re the one who parsed his quote.

Entire quote:

But I think over the long run, it’s better the government does not regulate the content of speech. I would urge these private sector companies to regulate it better themselves.”

Democrats will say whatever they think will best cover their true intentions.

I'll remind you that the classical liberals of the time of the founding have no philosophical relationship whatsoever to the idiots currently using the tag, who are essentially European-style socialists with a dash of an Orwellian plotline.

Talk to us of campus "free-speech zones", the prosecution and persecution of individuals who speak their mind, and the anti-American hive mind of our current media - all "liberal" constructs.

You people are useless to this nation. Keep pushing, please.

Thank you for proving my point of the right's anti-press rhetoric. Free speech and the free press run hand in hand. The founding father's understood that. The dumbed down Trumpist right does not.
Anyone get fired or lose their business because they support homosexual marriage? Got a long list of those that support traditional marriage who have.

Being able to marry either sex = more freedom. Once again , cons are against freedom.

We don't currently have a free press. We have Democratic Party employees.

the media has become the propaganda arm of the dem/lib/socialist party.

The funny thing is I had to go to another site to find Lieu' full quote. Why had not your site, the Victory Girls, not quote his full statement? I suspect because the full quote takes away from their point. It was intellectual dishonesty for them not to report the full quote. I published the full quote for all to read and to put his statement in context.

Nice attempt to divert from the fact he said he would love to be able to regulate the content of speech.

You lefties just can’t bring yourself to say he said something stupid because you advocate the suppression of speech you don’t agree with.

That's a good piece - I read it earlier today.

Ted Lieu is horrifying but at least he is transparent about his totalitarian tendencies.

It’s conservatives who actively attack our rights . Except for the 2nd, they wipe their ass with the constitution.
Says Brit Timmy who will get arrested if he says anything bad about Mohammed.

More lies .

OK, go down to Piccadilly circus and start yelling, Mohammed was a pervert and a false prophet, see how long it takes for the bobbies to lock your ass up.

Well the subject is America and it’s constitution.

And your full quote said he believes that the private market (Google, FaceBook, Twitter) should suppress free speech. Oh gee, that changes everything.

Nobody ever stopped marriage, it's just that in a free country, the state should have the right not to recognize it if their voters don't want to. But what the courts did was say to hell with what the people want. They don't have the freedom to decide on marriage--we do. We are going to FORCE states to accept these marriages whether the people want to or not.

What were you saying about freedom again????

Just a rare Leftist in a rarer moment of honesty. The Hard Left Antifa Democrats would never get a single vote if they ever told voters what they REALLY thought, believed and stood for. For one thing, they are completely crazy, so only a nutcase thinks they make sense when closely examined. That is why Democrats have this massive propaganda machine for putting out what they WANT supporters and voters to believe!

No, they would still get plenty of votes, just like if CNN told them the Democrat party wants them to walk off a cliff. I'm sure half of them would do it.

Victory girls blog? lol

Somebody needs to educate victory girl that the Constitution only prevents government from regulating speech, not private entities. Like right wing talk radio does 24 hours a day.
