Voters that prioritize their budget are going to vote against Democrats.

In fact I do prioritize spending! I would love to have a candidate that reins in spending and takes a more pragmatic approach to fiscal responsibility, but unfortunately neither of the likely candidates have a track record of doing that. I'm not talking some impractical Rand Paul fantasyland herd of unicorn proposals, just disciplined spending.

Trump talked a big game about balancing the budget before he was elected but he increased the federal debt by almost 7 trillion, and before anyone screams "pandemic spending" he had deficits of 1.3 trillion in FY2018 and 1.2 trillion in FY2019 before the pandemic response geared up.

Biden also increased the debt by well over a trillion, and even though CBO estimated the Inflation Reduction Act would decrease the federal debt he then went ahead with the idiotic student loan forgiveness program that clawed back said reduction.
