Thank you President Obama...this is leadership.

History lesson:

Clinton tried to put up a health care plan as well. One of the ideas was revising the old "Nixon Plan" to mandate employers to give employees health care. Republicans said, no way..there should be an "individual mandate". In any case..they killed the whole thing entirely.

It's not like you'd know this..because you were probably riding a unicorn at the time.

A 20+ year old policy dispute is relevant here, how?

First you post that it wasn't Republican ideas..then you post that a "20+ year old policy" dispute is relevant, how..

Make up your mind.

Sheesh.

The "policy dispute" has been ongoing for nearly a century. Although not perfect, President Obama got it done..to the chagrin of people like Mike Huckabee, who considers the unborn so precious that he thinks government should have domain over a woman's body but that people who have been born are like houses that the poor insurance companies shouldn't be forced to pay for if they get sick.

Gotta love it.

SO it isn't relevant at all. Nor did you mention the actual GOP proposal, totally ignored by the Dems.
Your post is a big fail.

the GOP proposal was more of the same old thing... except included the ability to buy across state lines... AND... as a bone to throw to the rich... tort reform so that when a doctor screws up a patient... they can only get so much in a civil suit.

Now, as an aside... frivolous lawsuits actually need reformed(doc gave me wrong prescription and I got a rash). but when there is real damage done(death or semi-permanent to permanent disability), then the victim deserves every penny they can get.

But the truth is... the GOP plan was essentially the same plan that goes on today that causes about 62% of the bankruptcies in this country(Harvard study), that see uninsured people going to the ER for treatment of problems that could be treated in a doctor's office for 1/4 of the cost(which is part of the reason our insurance keeps rising) and ranks 38th in the world vs. 1st in cost.

Why would we want to keep that going? Oh... I know why. Because our "For Profit system" benefits the rich folk who make money off of giving us mediocre Health Care at extremely high prices. We wouldn't want to upset them, now... would we?

Give accolades where accolades are due...our President may have an ounce of leadership in him afterall...

There is, frankly, resistance on my side to do anything on entitlements. There is strong resistance on the Republican side to do anything on revenues. But if each side takes a maximalist position, if each side wants 100 percent of what its, you know, ideological predispositions are, then we can't get anything done, ------ President Obama"

About freakin time someone said it...both sides have painted themselves in a corner with their refusal to budge or compromise. Perhaps at least now in his Presidency Obama will be a leader that we so desperately need.

Obama lied again yesterday.

He said "Nobody is talking about raising taxes now........nobody is talking about raising taxes next year".

This is a bold-faced lie. He has been constantly talking about raising taxes on jet owners. He's done nothing but talk about raising taxes. In his own words and that of his Treasury Sec. Timothy Geithner they said "everything is on the table". This includes tax increases. This lie alone shows he can't keep his story straight.

Yesterday was great. He lied so many times. It was like a gift from the Gods.

I'm just wondering why so many still trust him.

Obama: "I'd rather be talking about ... new programs (more spending) or the NFL season getting resolved. Unfortunately, this is what's on our plate."

Poor guy. He wants to do fun things.....not this silly budget stuff. Last time the debt came up he was working on his NCAA brackets on national television. He thought that was really cool.

Which was hilarious..because President Obama embraced the "last" GOP proposal..so they threw up a new one.

Jesus you're gullible.

I thought Obama ran on ending the failed policies of George W Bush.

(No matter how many times I've used that line, it gets no response. Wonder why?)

It takes quite some time to clean up that much shit.

So which failed policies has he ended? None. He has not reversed a single major policy Bush had. ON the contrary, he has extended and broadened all of them.
Only simps like you could possibly have believed him, then or now.

He has done a commendable job mopping up Bush's mess. You cannot expect him do undue 8 years of shit in 3 years.

•Starting in 2013, the bill adds an additional 0.9% to the 2.9% Medicare tax for singles who earn more than $200,000 and couples making more than $250,000.

• For first time, the bill also applies Medicare’s 2.9% payroll tax rate to investment income, including dividends, interest income and capital gains. Added to the 0.9% payroll surcharge, that means a 3.8-percentage point tax hike on “the rich.” Oh, and these new taxes aren’t indexed for inflation, so many middle-class families will soon be considered rich and pay the surcharge as their incomes rise past $250,000 due to tax-bracket creep. Remember how the Alternative Minimum Tax was supposed to apply only to a handful of millionaires?

• Also starting in 2013 is a 2.3% excise tax on medical device manufacturers and importers. That’s estimated to raise $20 billion.

• Already underway this year is the new annual fee on “branded” drug makers and importers, which will raise $27 billion.

• Another $15.2 billion will come from raising the floor on allowable medical deductions to 10% of adjusted gross income from 7.5%.

• Starting in 2018, the bill imposes a whopping 40% “excise tax” on high-cost health insurance plans. Though it only applies to two years in the 2010-2019 window of ObamaCare’s original budget score, this tax would still raise $32 billion—and much more in future years.

• And don’t forget a new annual fee on health insurance providers starting in 2014 and estimated to raise $60 billion. This tax, like many others on this list, will be passed along to consumers in higher health-care costs.

And?

What he really should be talking about is raising taxes. We are in a big shit hole (Which now, all of a sudden, is a dire thing for republicans) because government grew, spending grew and taxes were cut. And they were ALL republican iniatives. They got rid of Paygo to make them happen..as well.

And NOW Cantor is holding the Grover Norquist line..that you can't raise any revenue without offsetting it with a tax cut. He's just recently tossed deficit reduction out the window to hold the line on keeping the Bush Tax cuts permanent.

That's insane man.

Very insane.

apparently according to the dreaded fox obama has announced he cannot guarantee if the SS checks will go out for august 3rd. no, no politics here...;)

He caved over and over in the Healtcare debate and every time he went to kick the football the GOP pulled it back and demanded more.

TFF

and now we know why, but that being said, obamacare passed...yes? not a single rep. vote?

Yes, we do.....Obama is a pussy and foolishly believed that he could work with the GOP.

Wrong. President Obama is a jackass and didn't even try to "work with" the GOP. His bullshit notion of "working with" them is to dictate to them. Then the imbecile is butt hurt that they don't accept his dictates.

Where you success, I see failure. I am not a fan of Obama, but the last thing he should do is compromise with one of the most wretched and vile GOPs in American history.

Obama should invoke the spirit of Jackson and be stubborn as a mule. His pragmatism and compromise has got us what so far?

You're an idiot.

Obama and his minons had full control of the Senate, Congress and the Presidency and they systematically (sp) spent more money in 19 months than any administration from Washington to Reagan combined!

And you partisan hacks want to blame the Republicans!?!?! :cuckoo:
