Term Limits in Congress Are Required to Save the Union

That was the rub I was talking about. They won't vote for firing themselves, too lucrative of a racket.
The state legislatures can call for the convention, can propose and adopt amendments to the Constitution, and completely leave the US Congress and Senate out of the process.

Be careful what you wish for. Term limits for politicians is based on an assumption that citizens aren't smart enough to engage in the process. Americans have a Constitutional right to keep a member of congress who best represents their values.

Because DC is so corrupted by money they just buy elections. Once in, it is extremely rare for any Congresscritter to ever lose another election.

Job approval of Congress: 17%
Reelection rate of Congress: 96%

If that doesn’t make you understand that we need term limits now, then you’re the reason they have instructions on shampoo bottles.

The problem with term limits is that
a) you lose vast experience
b) you give the bad actors who manipulate and cheat elections far more opportunity to get their representatives into a strong majority.

I would much prefer to see a strong code of ethics codified into law and requiring a 3/4ths majority of each chamber of Congress to rescind it:

1. Members of Congress must put all investments into a blind trust that they cannot access but appointed watchdogs of the opposing party can monitor.

2. Members of Congress will pay all their own expenses other than a modest administrative expense account. Any travel at taxpayer expense must be authorized by a majority of the other congressional members.

3. Members of Congress will utilize the same healthcare the citizens have access to and will pay for their own insurance and other healthcare.

4. There will be no federal retirement plan for members of Congress. They can pay into their own IRAs or 401k plans but no federal monies will add to what they contribute out of their own salaries.

5. Any Congressional person who will directly benefit from proposed legislation may not vote on that legislation.

6. Members of Congress must use existing furnishings for their congressional offices--the federal government has warehouses full of usable stuff discarded by former congresspersons--or if they want something different they pay for it themselves. Every 10 years they may receive a reasonable stipend for new stuff.

7. Federal budgets begin at zero and omnibus spending bills are to fund basic administrative costs of the government only. All other government spending and policy must be in stand alone bills with congressional members voting on the record for them. No change of vote is allowed once the vote is finalized. The only voice votes allowed are to recognize people or of a commemorative nature that put no new regulations or requirements or expense on the American people.

8. Members remarks are recorded in the Library of Congress and nobody may 'revise or extend' their remarks after the fact.

9. All agencies and departments of government must be audited at regular intervals and those programs that are no longer needed or not producing the desired results will be ended.

10. Any congress person committing intentional provable malfeasance while in office or putting out deliberate harmful disinformation will be expected to resign.

Do that and we will again have public servants running for and winning seats in congress instead of professional politicians who are in it for themselves. Do that and only those who truly love the job and are good at it will run for re-election. Term limits will be unnecessary.

And one other thing I'm still thinking through. How about each state pay its own representatives' salaries and expense accounts? That way the people of Wyoming with the population of a large city and three representatives wouldn't have to be responsible for paying the salaries and expense accounts for country sized California's 54 representatives. (I'm including senators in 'representatives' here.)

takes away the temptation of insider trading and quid pro quos.

then why do we have a term limit on President?

Someone is smart enough to say I think Congress is doing a crappy job.
Yet…..

They just snuck themselves a raise.... too lazy to go look, but I think it was $21K.... which pelosi would call a "sleepy Tuesday" of insider trading.

The institution is completely broken, and probably not fixable. It's like the fbi, doj, dhs, "policing themselves".... not gonna happen.

Term limits will solve jack shit... Term limits just give more power to the party machines...

Multi-seat districts with preference voting... That will bring the incumbency rate down naturally and for better reasons.. It would create more parties and better representation... US method of democracy is antiquated..
That proves it, the Left hates the idea, so it must be done.

I say one and done.

No reelections.

We have a two party system that isn't effective. Neither side can agree on anything.

So, made up quotes somehow prove your point?
Real quotes? You want real quotes

Defeating Global Warming Is Pretty Much Like When The Allies Defeated Nazi Germany, Or Something
If Climate Change Isn’t Addressed, People Are Gonna Like, Die And Stuff
Let’s “Flip This Seat Red In November”

Or you can hear her idiocy in person

Term limits are not the problem and an excuse to allow people to be lazy. It’s getting the public to wake the fuck up and stop sending back the same people creating the problems to fix them That needs to happen.

Term limits violate the constitution and are not what the founders wanted.

Any other constitutional rights you want to take away?
