Taunton schools rebut report on child's Jesus drawing

Most people do NOT put their kids in the middle of a phony scandal though since they tend to love their kids far more than they love publicity. The number of exceptions in the last 20 or so years can be counted on a single hand. The boy in the balloon was the last one and that guy had a certifiable history of exploiting his family for publicity.
Yes!
I never in a million years would have thought I'd ever agree with on anything but here is proof miracles can happen.

 The father's story seems to be a hoax at this point. Out to get a little cash this holiday season.
. :eusa_shhh:

Note the  and the word seems.

Whether that is concrete is yet to be determined. However, I would not be surprised if this was a hoax for cash.

In that case:

 The superintendent seems to be full of crap at this point. Out to cover her ass during the coming lawsuit season.

That's my unbiased opinion. :D

Taunton schools rebut report on child's Jesus drawing - Local News Updates - The Boston Globe

TAUNTON -- The story smacked of religious bias during the Christmas season: An elementary school allegedly suspended a second-grader, it went, and required the boy to undergo a psychological evaluation after he drew a picture of Jesus Christ on the cross.

But today, Taunton school officials challenged the account, first reported in the Taunton Daily Gazette and later repeated by the boy's father. The reports have created a media frenzy in this city south of Boston.

Julie Hackett, superintendent of Taunton Public Schools, said the student was never suspended and that neither he nor other students at the Maxham Elementary School were asked by their teacher to sketch something that reminded them of Christmas or any religious holiday, as the newspaper reported and the father suggested.

She said it was unclear whether the boy -- who put his name above his stick-figure portrait of Christ on the cross -- even drew it in school.

"The inaccuracies in the original media story have resulted in a great deal of criticism and scrutiny of the system that is unwarranted," she said.

"It hurts me that they did this to my kid," Chester Johnson, the boy's father, told the Globe. "They can't mess with our religion; they owe us a small lump sum for this.''

Hmmm. Thoughts? :eusa_think:

So much for all that "Christian Bashing."

Ha ha ha ha...one story comes out against what the father said and all of a sudden the father is a fucking liar....yeah..that makes perfect sense. You really enjoy passing judgement on people who "don't see things your way" don't you Dogbert?

I figured when I first read this, it would end up to be something like this.
I must still give people too much credit because my first thought was not that the father was a deceptive scumbag trying to bilk the school system of money.
The quote from the father inclines me toward that position ow.

So now it's the parents word against the schools....hmmmm which one do you believe?

Given my experiences with the public schools I will ALWAYS side on the parents, absent absolute proof that the parents are wrong.

So its now a He said She said moment. The family says the kid drew this picture in school

and that the school sent the child home and told the parents he can not return until the child completes a psychological evaluation.

The school says the boy's drawing was seen as a potential cry for help when the student identified himself, rather than Jesus, as the figure on the cross, which sparked the teacher to alert the school's principal and staff psychologist.

Who to believe is what people are disagreeing on. I dont see his name directly above the image in a way that shows the boy identifying himself as Jesus on the cross anywhere online yet, once i do see that I may be able to say the school acted right...if I dont I think this was a very bad decision.

I find it hard to believe that a public school teacher would be asking kids to draw a christmas picture or any sort of holiday picture. Especially in this day and age.

What makes it difficult for me to believe the father is the fact he's looking for cash. Anytime I see that, those red flags go off in my head.

I just don't know enough to really make the call either way. I'll wait for a picture showing the kid putting his name above the cross in a way that shows he is identfying himself as jesus.

You make a good point though about asking them to draw a picture about christmas, especially in my state

Curiously enough, when my son was in elementary school, I visited the school to find a whole line of hanaka drawings (the candles) with one or two nativity scenes outside the classroom opposite his. The next day, the nativity scenes were missing but the drawings of the candles were still there.....hmmmm.

Funny thing is, until the nativity scenes disappeared, I didn't think anything of it, given my choice, I would have drawn the candles too, they are are lot easier to draw than people gathered around a manger.

Liberal USA, c'mon.

But the thing is, as soon as $$$ comes involved, I get suspicious.
