Supreme Court Blocks Republican-Drawn Alabama Voting Map

Let's not forget the federal aid that Alabama receives. Fucking moochers.

Alabama gets $2.17 for every $1 paid in federal taxes.

New York is one of just seven states that pays more in federal taxes than it receives in spending. The others are New Jersey, California, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Illinois, and Wisconsin.

And New York has a GDP of $1.56 trillion compared to Alabama's weak $213 billion.

New York just keeps winning!

well, you can drive, but it won’t count. I don’t think you read the news today.
Or maybe the ruling hurts so much that you blocked it from your memory.
How do the disgusting left wingers think this is going to end? Based on history we will divorce ourselves from the vermin left at some point then those imbeciles will be on their own. We'll live in our lands and they can live in filth in theirs.

Ruling upholds a lower-court finding that dispersed Black voters into districts dominated by white citizens

The Supreme Court ordered Alabama on Thursday to create a second Black-majority congressional district, upholding a lower-court finding that the Republican-controlled state legislature likely violated the Voting Rights Act by dispersing Black voters into districts dominated by white citizens.

Here is a link to the ruling...

Basis on "equal-access to the fundamental right of voting."

I find it astonishing. The Republican draw the lines based upon party affiliation, not skin color. If Blacks tended to vote for Republicans, they would have adjusted the lines appropriately.

Importantly, if Blacks tended to vote for Republicans, then there would be no lawsuit to be had, would there? That's kind of ironic, and it also proves that the proposed district lines are based upon political viewpoint, which is not a protected class.

I am also astonished that race is being used as a justification to re-draw district lines - that's racist.

Equal representation under law could screw the GOP.

We welcome informed POC to the polls.
It's the urban poverty plantation & trailer park trash types with no morals or common sense that can't pick out the US on a map that we would prefer stay home.

We have a conservative supreme court. This was a conservative opinion, against the gerrymandering of voting districts in that state based on race. You naysayers loved the conservative supreme court, considering their judgement fair until this one. What is the change? Neither one of us read the briefs. You think the state of Alabama in the deep south is above that sort of thing? I don't live there, would not put it past them, and so I'm ok with it.

I"ve lived in Alabama. It is definitely a third world state. They are about a century behind the rest of the country.

The only states worse than Alabama are Mississippi and Louisiana.

A lot of young people leave after they get a degree due to draconian abortion laws among others.

Now we know there are RINOs on the Supreme Court.

The Constitution gives Congress the power to regulate federal elections. The ENTIRE Voting Rights Act was always legal so the Supreme Court acted unconstitutionally in dismantling it.

Less-educated, older white males are dwindling as a percentage of the voting population, and democracy is being realized as a more diverse, better-educated populace arises.

Kvetching by the displaced is to be expected.

Incidentally, nowhere in the United States Constitution does it mention any gods or any religions.

In 2016, Trump shocked the world by tearing down the “Blue Wall” states of Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. Quickly, a new consensus congealed around the idea that despite having lost the national popular vote, and only barely having won the Electoral College, Trump had improved Republicans’ fortunes for the foreseeable future with his unique appeal to “uneducated” voters. Suddenly, white non-college voters became the “it” constituency... Yet, since 2016, Republicans have lost 23 of the 27 elections in the five states everyone agrees Democratic hopes in the Electoral College and the Senate depend on.
Republicans defied history by losing nearly across the board in those states last year, the only time anything like that has happened to a Party running against such an unpopular president a midterm.
The literally unprecedented surge in new voters over the last three elections... young voters are much more diverse than the rest of the population, and young white people are far more anti-MAGA than their parents.

So, you're saying the Supreme Court is legit, after all?

Yeah, those gender-studies majors are well educated.

Don't be bitter. Progress happens.

A victory for democracy; a defeat for the racist right.
