I swear the day Bush comes on TV and announces Sudan is an "ally" in the WOT, I'm going UA/AWOL and not coming back.

Our CIA is incompetent, desperate to make up for its poor decisions, inability to train and develop new HUMINIT assets and overall impotency. So it has sought and continues to develop a relationship with the ringleaders behind genocide in S. Sudan and Darfur... the very same type of Islamists we are fighting in Iraq, Afghanistan, the Phillipines and will one day be fighting against in Pakistan, Thailand, Saudi Arabia, etc etc.

How does Bush and the CIA get away with this? Would we have tolerated aligning ourselves with Milosevic? Or the Hutu Power in Rwanda?

The WOT is not like WW2 or the Cold War. We do not need to seek relations with every jack, joe and jerk who comes down the street with good information. We can be choosy, because to win, we must be patient, think in the long-term and envision where we want to be in 20 years, not 2 years. By selling out not only our morals but our strategic long-term view (i.e. the end of radical/fundamentalist Islam like that which is prevalent in Sudan, Saudi, etc etc), we're dooming ourselves to failure.

Bush has got to know that we will have to deal with the Sudan as well as with Somalia again. Especially in Somalia where they have Taliban-like support at the leadership level.

He's not in charge. he's putting the policy on autopilot, allowing the CIA to dictate the policy within their narrow framework of their WOT needs. everytime we've let the CIA do this in history, its blown up in our faces. these guys are just 90% borderline incompetent when they're running the diplomatic show.
