Evans showed his appreciation by replying, “A VERY cool use of vibranium,” which is the material used for his character's shield in the Marvel universe:

That's true. But for a long time, the most rabid and looniest of the rabid loonies were overwhelmingly right wing. It was practically a badge of honor that the right could find a way to dive into all kinds of irrationality and surface with some superficially plausible justification that--if nothing else--helped to tether the moderate lands with a gentle slope to the right. The counter strategy by the left had been to anchor their political ideology in a certain intellectuality and realism, which allowed the Democratic party to preserve a certain sensibility in the fact of an increasingly underhanded GOP political machine.

In the past couple years it seems that the left have adopted an entirely different approach of trying to fight proverbial fire with fire. They're now engaging in their own rapid trending toward extremisms--just in the opposite direction. After years of building their identity on an intellectual high ground, Democrats are rightly criticized now for abandoning it in their own pursuit of the very mindless populism they decry in the President's support base.
